MANHOLE COVERS
and
OTHER CAST IRON STREET ART
( Hungary and the Rest of the World)
Twenty years ago when I was walking
on the streets of Granada, Spain, I caught sight of a nice, peculiar cast
iron cover of a water tap hole in front of my foot. On this cover was a
beautiful pomegranate (a Mediterranean fruit), and I fell in love with
this type of art immediately. At that time I was thinking what a nice idea
would be to take a photo of it and other objects like it and then collect
pictures of these objects from all over the World. But, as usual, I let
it slide and before I knew it I had lost 18 years. As a result, I have
been taking photos and collecting them for only for two years. Of course
I have been looking for pictures of objects of this type on the Web and
I found some very exiting websites dealing with this topic. I hope there
are still other people who enthusiastically collect these pictures. I would
like to show to the other people how interesting and nice these works of
iron are from an artistic point of view. They represent the industrial
design culture and, at the same time, the heritage of the inhabitants of
the cities in which they are to be found. If somebody is interested in
this subject and would like to look at more pictures, or else deals with
similar gcrazyh things, please contact me at: acsistvan@hotmail.com
About me
My name is Istvan Acs, I was born at 1950 in Budapest, Hungary. I grew up in a quite large family. After finishing my studies at the University of Agricultural Sciences, I dealt with animal breeding and genetic subjects. Now I work in the administrative field in my profession.
I always like making photos of different places and things around me. Of course I am not a professional photographer. I have only a very simple camera suited only to an amateur. I hope, though, in this way I can bring to notice other kinds of sights of things around us which are not usually perceived.
