I know of a cemetary in Dry Prong Louisiana where my father and
mother are buried and every headstone you look at is a Shirley.
It is a small community but a pretty large and old cemetary. It's
the only one there. My father's name was Robert Shirley, His father
was Frank Shirley, my uncles are James Shirley and Ezell Shirley.
James was born in 1912, my dad Robert in 1922, Ezell in 1932, and
my grand-pa Frank in the late 1800's, I don't know the exact year.
Frank Shirley's wife was Ella Orr. Her father was an Orr and her
mother was a Kirkendahl. All these people lived around Dry Prong,
Louisiana. I don't know exactly where Frank Shirley came from, but
he lived in Louisiana until his death. I walked through Dry Prong
Cemetary with my Father in 1971 at my Mother's funeral and then in
1975 with aunts and uncles at my Father's funeral. I remember one
of my aunts pointing out each headstone as we walked by and telling
me how I was related to each person, and at the time I was not that
interested, I was only nine. If anyone knows where Frank Shirley
came from or who his parents were, please let me know.
Thanks, Randy Shirley
