Dragon Thoughts

Welcome to my page of words immortalized in letters, because someday, generations to come will look back and say, "Yes sir, those were some letters and words, and they were on the Internet!"

Before diving in, here's a few things that might make a lot of this make a little more sense.

Therianthrope

The word combines the Greek therion, wild animal, with anthropos, human being.

i·den·ti·ty   Pronunciation Key  (-dnt-t)
n. pl. i·den·ti·ties
  1. The collective aspect of the set of characteristics by which a thing is definitively recognizable or known: “If the broadcast group is the financial guts of the company, the news division is its public identity” (Bill Powell).
  2. The set of behavioral or personal characteristics by which an individual is recognizable as a member of a group.
  3. The quality or condition of being the same as something else.
  4. The distinct personality of an individual regarded as a persisting entity; individuality.

The writings collected here are on a few topics, leaning heavily toward concepts like: therianthropy, species dysphoria, and the simple fact that for some people, their intellectual life, internal world, and identity may be something that differs from their physical genetics and the arbitrary social expectations of the society they find themselves in. The writings are often very personal. I am, first and foremost, me. I am obviously a person in a physical body that is human; a biological homo sapien. My identity however, more than conventional definitions of human: what I am in a greater sense, is a dragon. For the record, I am not really much of a Furry, though I sometimes create artwork for the anthromorphic community and know quite a few fans. If one had to pigeonhole me into being part of -some- group, to make themselves happy, I and many like me would perhaps fit into the Otherkin community.

The thoughts and ideas expressed in the collected essays / rants / delirious babbling here are opinions, and are presented as things that are right for me, not simply Right. In discussion of anything, I am an advocate of the following principles:

  1. Release the need to be right.
  2. Welcome one another's thoughts and opinions.
  3. Suspend judgment.
  4. Listen for understanding, not rebuttal.
  5. Make personal statements by using "I" rather than "you".
  6. Clarify first what was said before you challenge someone.
  7. Take time to reflect.
  8. Lean into discomfort.
  9. Respond first to what was said before making your point.
  10. Have fun.
