Lacy Pineapple Blouse Designer: Beatriz Medina © CP-0119

Designer's Notes: The secret of this simply modeled blouse is the stitch. It's a sleeveless blouse, with a U-neck.The directions are for a cotton blouse, but it can be made in fingering or baby yarn. It is made in one piece but you can make it in two pieces for a vest. This stitch comes out so beautifully that it can be used in tablecloths and other pieces to decorate a house. Instructions are for small (chest: 86cm or 34"; height of blouse: 60cm or 24") with notes on how to increase or decrease size.

Gauge: a swatch with two complete pineapples (two complete units of the stitch, beginning with ch 49 and having 28 rows made) measures 4.5" across and 6.5" height.

Pattern Notes: The blouse is worked in rounds in a circle until arm height, then divided in two parts for the front and the back. (You can also make this in two parts and sewn together at the end of work. Instructions on how to make this blouse in two parts.

When crocheting in the round, join each round with a sl st at the 3rd chain of the beg of the round.

The pineapple pattern is made with a stitch of ch 24 (plus 1 for turning). That's call a unit. By adding or deleting a unit or a half unit you can alter the size of the blouse.

Materials:
1000m of nr. 8 cotton thread such as DMC pearl cotton or cotton #20 thread
Steel hook nr 3 (1.25mm) (US 10)

Directions:
Front and Back in round: Make 312 chains, slip stitch to close in a circle. Repeat Pineapple Pattern stitch until piece measures 40 cm (16") - 4.5 pineapples height. Fasten Off. Then divide the work for the armholes. You'll work the back first.

For Back: Join thread in a row corresponding to the 8th row of the LAST Pineapple Stitch sequence. Work as follows:
Row 1: *Ch 3, skip 1 dc of the previous row, 1 sc*, repeat 2 times (you'll have 3 arches), ch 3, 1 group in the previous row group, 1 dc in tr - you've made half pineapple; work the following six pineapples, until you reach the dc in the tr at the end of the sixth pineapple.
Continue working 6.5 pineapples, following the pattern, for some 20cm (8") - until you complete 2.5 pineapples. Back Finished.

Left Front: Put the hook in the same tr that was the last stitch of the first row of the back. Slip stitch and make ch 3 (that stands for 1 dc); 1 group in the previous row group, and continue following the pattern for two complete pineapples; work only half of the third pineapple (make 1 sc in the first dc, ch 3, skip 1 dc, 1 sc, ch 3, skip another dc, 1 sc, ch 2, 1 dc in middle dc). Turn the work.
Row 2: Ch 3, 1 sc in next arch, ch3, 1sc in next arch, ch 3, 1 group in the previous row group, ch 1, 1 dc on dc; continue with the pattern until end of row, turn the work.
Row 3: Follow the pattern for two complete pineapples, then after the last dc in dc, ch 2, 1 group in the group, make ch 3, 1 sc in following arch, ch 2, 1 dc in the last arch. Turn the work.
Row 4: Ch 3, 1 group in the previous group; follow the pattern until end of row, turn the work.
Row 5: Follow the pattern until the last 3 dc in previous dc, ch 3, 2 dc in the middle of the previous group, 1 dc in the last dc of previous group.Turn the work without making chains.
Row 6: 1 sc in next dc, hdc in next dc, ch 2, 2 dc in next dc and follow the pattern until end of row. Turn the work.
Row 7: Follow the pattern until the last group in previous group; ch 1, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc, 2 dc in next dc, work the next 2 dc together. Turn the work.
Row 8: *Ch 3, skip one dc, 1 sc*, repeat from * to * twice (you'll have three arches), then follow the pattern until end of row. Turn the work.
Row 9: Follow the pattern until last group in previous row group; ch 3, 1 sc in next arch, ch 3, 1 sc in last arch; turn the work.
Row 10: Ch 5, 1 sc in the next arch and so on; just follow the pattern from this point on. You'll make more 25 rows working straight. Fasten Off.

Right Front: Counting from the half-pineapple where you finished 1st row on the left side, you'll skip 1.5 pineapple and will slip stitch the thread in second treble crochet of the previous row.
Row 1: Ch 3, 1 group in the previous row group, ch 3, 1 sc in next dc, ch 3, skip one dc, 1 sc, and continue following the pattern until you get to the beginning of the back; make your last dc in the same stitch you began to work the back rows. Turn the work.
Row 2: Follow the pattern until the last 4 arches; ch 3, 2 dc in the middle of the previous row group, 1 dc in the last dc of the previous group. Turn the work without making chains.
Row 3: 1 sc in next dc, hdc in next dc, 1 dc, ch 3, 1 sc in next arch, and keep following the pattern until end of row. Turn the work.
Row 4: Follow the pattern until the last sc in arch, ch 3, 1 dc in next dc; turn the work.
Row 5: Ch 5, 1 sc in next arch, and follow the pattern until end of work. Turn the work.
Row 6: Follow the pattern until the last sc in the last arch; ch 3, 1 dc in the third chain of the previous row turning chain. Turn the work.
Row 7: Ch 3, 1 dc in next sc, and continue following the pattern until end of row.
Row 8: Follow the pattern until last group in previous row group; 1 dc in last dc, turn the work.
Row 9: Ch 4 (stands for 1 treble crochet), ch 1 and follow the pattern until end of row.
Continue in established pattern for 8 inches. Fasten Off.

Sew the shoulders. To finish, make 5 rows of dc around the neck (take care to reduce the number of stitches of each row, working some of them together, to accommodate the curves as you go), 4 rows of dc in the armholes and 3 rows at the interior border.

To Make Blouse in Two Parts: If you prefer to make it in two pieces as a vest, the directions are the same; just begin the back and the front with 157 chains each and work the pattern until the 63th row. Then follow the above instructions. Of course you'll have to sew the sides
