Water crisis heightens in Gulbarga district

Drying up of major rivers thar formed water sources have caused severe water crisis in almost all the villages of the district. Measures by govt are of little help

Unlike Punjab and Bijapur Gulbarga is also endowed with numerous rivers like Bheema, Krishna, Kagina, Amarja, Bennitora, Mullahmari kamalavati and so on. But there is no water in these rivers following severe drought.

Due to lack of rainfall since 3 years the underground water has decreased drastically in all parts of the state. All the borewells had dried long back but now even the banks of rivers ave dried up. Therefiore majority of the villages in this district are facing severe water crisis.

Few years back people would struggle only during April and May for water. But this year it is just end of March and water crisis has risen to maximum.
Eariler when borewell were sunk water use to be available at 200-300ft. But now even after digging 400-500 feet people won’t find signs of water.

People of Afazalpur, Manur, Mashal, Karajagi where there is severe drinking water problem have started holding protest in front of DC office and Tahasildar demanding water.

Moreover the condition of campaigners is very bad. Because they cannot stop going to villages demanding for votes and if they go they are first asked to provide water. In all the 1200 villages in the district one or the other water problem is found.

In the Month of January about 286 villages were identified where severe water crisis was existing. Leaving 17 villages arrangement were made by the Zilla Panchayat and District Administration to provide water to other villages. But recently another 130 village have come under grip of water crisis.

DeputyCommissioner Ajum Parvez has asked the official to provide water ith the help of tankers in all the areas were there is problem.

But when water is not availbale what can the officials do?
