Impressive Italy beat battling Danes
Italy 2-1 Denmark

A brace from Patrizia Panico secured victory for Italy against Denmark in the women's Euro 2001 Championships.

Panico struck her first goal in the 12th minute and had two more chances for Italy before the interval, but failed to convert either.

She atoned for those misses in the 72nd minute with a header to put her side two up in Aalen, Germany.

The most impressive element of Italy's play was their passing and the way they kept possession.

But Denmark battled on and caused their opponents some anxious moments when substitute Julie Bukh pulled a goal back from a corner after 76 minutes.
