diesel sweeties: comic strip

Quick Notes
Steve and Collin complain to me whenever Red Robot kicks their asses. Maybe now they'll quit complaining.

Happy birthday (this weekend) to one of my best friends and favorite cartoonists. Magical Jeff Rowland was one of the first inter-web super stars to be my friend back when I was getting started in this crazy business.

Monkey MAYhem kicks off with a new DS shirt and a huge 5-pack of shirts from four of my best friends. (Goats, Creatures, Robot Stories & Wigu)

Auction of Doom
05/21/2004 - 12:37 PM

I just set up what I think is my first original art auction ever. It's a 14" x 17" marker drawing made for the Scary Go Round guest comic I did a few weeks ago. I checked with John A before listing it, so it's cool. Bidding starts at $1 and all proceeds go towards flying to the San Diego Comic-Con this year!

Dear Blogging friends! I am in the midst of redesigning this site but I am saving all your emails and will try to get back to everyone as soon as I can.

Also: I'm working out a deal with a very cool internet advertising company to run some ads on DS. It looks like we start next week with some standard 468x60 ads. I'm not going to be accepting any form of pop-up, pop-under or similarly annoying ads. There will also not be any interruptions in site updates or loss of free content. Email me if you'd like info on advertising on DS.

BLOGGER ALERT INFINITY-X

Can you write? Are you a well-established "inter-net superstar" or blogger? Would you like to work on something fun as a lark? Drop me an email if you're feeling funny.

I Have Too Much Stuff!
05/17/2004 - 12:51 PM

I have too much stuff! After spending a lot of time talking to one of the smartest people I know, we've come to the conclusion that I have way too much stuff. So much stuff that's really tough to keep it all organized. So much stuff just floating around in boxes that I'm winding up buying duplicate things and finding the originals a couple weeks later. It's tough to get rid of things when you're traditionally a comic book buyer and a big fan of thrift stores but I'm going to give it a shot this summer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I probably won't notice the difference if I only have 3,000 comics stored in my closet instead of 5,000. If I really can tell the difference and it bothers me, then it's time to open a comic book store!

Can you guys help me out? I'm going to start putting stuff up on the dumbrella boards and in my mailing list so I can find homes for everything. None of it's broken or bad or anything, it's just that I'd like to shed five or six hundred pounds or so of material before next time I move. I'll be starting out with electronics I don't need and moving into comic books, CDs, books and some household stuff.

I'm not asking you all to buy everything, but an email of encouragement or some tips on auctions would be really swell.

Scuzzy is Fuzzy

I got the SCSI thing fixed - I just bought an older, Maccier SCSI card. Thanks for the advice!

Dear Smart Mac Users:
05/07/2004 - 3:45 PM

I'm pretty proud of the fact that I can solve about 95% of my Macintosh problems on my own, but this one exceeds my abilities. I picked up a Manhattan Mercury SCSI card to run a big-ass scanner I found on ebay. The scanner functions when attached to an ancient Mac with built in SCSI but I can't figure out how to flash the card so it's Mac compatible under OS X. Has anyone dealt with this and willing to lend a hand?
Email, please.

Spring Is When the Flowers Grow
04/21/2004 - 2:10 PM

I just posted some photos of recent commissioned illustrations that I'm really happy to have done. Now that the semester is winding down and my teaching duties are fading into the sunset, I'm opening the floor for new commissioned art. Email me if you'd like more info- we can work it out. Anything from pixelating your girlfriend for a DS strip to some simple website icons is possible. No freebies, please.

The Eye of the Stizzorm
04/13/2004 - 1:02 PM

Jeff is starting a cult, Jon is working his way through Red Bull addiction, I'm trying to figure out if bacon is a vegetable and Johnny is working on a hangover cure. DUMBRELLA WHIRLWIND!

Soothing Expectorant Formula
04/09/2004 - 1:09 AM

I'm on some really interesting cough medicine which is making me think a lot. What do you suppose will be the next album to be mixed with Jay-Z's Black Album? Maybe a Pixies album? Maybe some good old-fashioned B-52s? Perhaps it could be combined with the Star Wars soundtrack for the Black Empire Strikes Back or something? Whatever it is, we need more please. I really enjoy listening to this stuff- it's like a planetary-level joke.

Can You Hear Me Now?
04/08/2004 - 1:03 PM

Here's a couple of small news bytes:

I saw Hellboy last week. I've been reading HB since the first issue came out those many moons ago and I'd have to recommend this movie for anyone who likes cracked-out superhero demon movies. There are a couple of weird parts where Hollywood injects a few "additions," but it's more than worth the price of admission just to see some of Mignola's visuals translated into real-world images.

Scary Go Round is back up this week after a couple days of excruciating downtime. Rumor has it John is working on a really big project for later this year... get excited now and avoid the rush!

Unintelligible Political Discourse
03/29/2004 - 6:17 PM

When did remixing music become a political issue? When will the U.S. Presidential candidates tell us their position on the storage space per dollar ratio of the iPod vs the iPod mini? If John Kerry is really so fit that he can ski and snowboard, why haven't we seen him breakdance yet? What is G.W.B.'s best D.D.R. score? I need to know this kind of thing before I will register to vote. Perhaps if we can't find any weapons of mass destruction we as a nation can settle for the Triforce? I listen to far too much political stuff on the radio while I'm working and I have absolutely nothing intelligent to add. PS: I just made an amazing cup of coffee and a grilled curried eggplant sandwich.

I See Smart People
03/23/2004 - 2:27 AM

M.I.T. has been re-named the Massachusetts Institute of Awesome. Thank you for letting us participate in such a fun lecture. I love meeting geeks, especially really smart ones. There's something really reassuring knowing that these folks are some of the world's weirdest and best and they're really supportive of webcomics.

I Take Meds For a Military-Industrial Complex
03/12/2004 - 12:43 PM

I've been spray painting some furniture, so blame propellent madness for causing me to draw a kitty ass. In other news: There's a Sexy War Criminal shirt if you didn't notice the little banner at the top of this page. I don't know how long this one can last, but the people who requested it seemed quite excited. My pappy always used to tell me, "Son, I say, Son- It never hurts to listen to your audience. Especially if they be armed and dangerous."
