Introduction:
Thank you for visiting the official surgery web page of the Pediatric Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. The entire team, including the Orthopaedic Surgeons, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Case Managers, the team Secretaries, and others involved hope that you find this page interesting, insightful, and instructive.

Goals:
The Surgery Web Page has been designed with two specific goals in mind. First, the hope is to help parents and children cope with the difficulties, uncertainties, and sometimes stressful circumstances that accompany surgery. Second, the objective is to provide parents with specific information about their child's condition/illness and to arm them with information about what happens before, during, and after the most commonly performed surgeries at Johns Hopkins.

Both of these goals are achieved by providing details about what happens during various surgical procedures, the hospital stay post-operatively, and during the return to home (upon discharge). Advice is given along the way to help your child be comfortable during this potentially stressful time and to answer questions as, and even before, they arise.

Please note that all patients and surgeries are different and that the information contained in this site might not always apply to your particular case. Some modifications in protocols outlined here may be changed to provide you and your child with the best possible results. Nevertheless, the information given is assured to make the process run much more smoothly. Also know that questions that are not answered by this site can always be answered by one of the members of the Pediatric Orthopaedic team who are willing and ready to help at any time.
