Most of the DVDs sold at J-List are region-free, so you can view them on any DVD player. But some DVDs -- mainly Indies releases from companies other than Soft on Demand, a few titles by Soft on Demand, and all Japanese-released anime and hentai titles, are coded for region 2 (Japan and Europe).
There are several ways to get around these codes, including buying a code-free DVD player, which are quite easy to find, or you can view the DVDs on your computer's DVD-ROM drives. Look for more information below. To see all the region 2 DVDs at J-List, click this link.
For those interested in a full-featured code-free DVD player, J-List recommends (and sells) several excellent players which give you many features, such as region free DVD playback, support for DVD/Video CD/MP3, NTSC and PAL playback, universal power supply, and so on. Please see all the players we currently stock. Please see the reasonably-priced DVD players that we sell.
Another popular way to view region 2 DVDs is on your computer's DVD-ROM player, if you have one. As a general rule, you can change your DVD-ROM's region 5 times before it's set forever (Peter keeps his Powerbook set to region 2 for convenience, so he can always watch region 2 DVDs on the road.) If you have two CD-ROM drive bays, you can add a second DVD-ROM drive which you can permanently leave set to region 2, too. |
We positively love DVD, and are happy to be able to make some fantastic titles available from Japan to everyone. Please feel free to email us with any questions you have.
