BABY'S RIPPLED SWEATER SET
Pattern taken from "Doreen Baby Book" Volume 92 pub. 1945
Pattern No. 201 This is my absolute favorite sweater set to make for a little girl.  It is very feminine and elegant looking.

MATERIALS:  5 OZ. 3-ply baby yarn;  1 or 2 oz. size 5 rayon or cotton crochet thread (can be matching or contrast color);  #3 bone hook . ( I use a size F hook);  1/4" - 3/8" ribbon for ties. No gauge or size given but I find it will fit up to a size 6-9 months.

Starting at neck:  Ch 72.  Make 1 dc in 3rd st from hook, *3 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 4 sts; rep from * across row ending with 3 dc in next st, 1 dc in last 2 sts.  NOTE:  Hereafter when working dc pick up the back loop of the sts and when increasing use both loops of the st on the row below.  Ch 3, turn.

Row 2: Skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next st; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 2 sts; *skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next 2 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 2 sts; rep from * 12 times.  Ch 3, turn.

Row 3:  Skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next 2 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 3 sts; *skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 3 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 3 sts; rep from * 12 times.  Ch 3, turn.

Row 4:  Skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next 2 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 3 sts; *skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 3 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 3 sts; rep from * 12 times.  Ch 3, turn.

Row 5:  Skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 3 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 4 sts; *skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 4 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 4 sts; rep from * across. Ch 3, turn.

Row 6:  Skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 3 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 4 sts; *skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 4 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in nest 4 sts; rep from * across.  Ch3, turn. 

Row 7:  Skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 4 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 5 sts; *skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 5 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 5 sts; rep from * across.  Ch3, turn.

Row 8:  Skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 4 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 5 sts; *skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 5 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 5 sts; rep from * across.  Ch 3, turn.

Row 9:  Skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 5 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 6 sts; *skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 6 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 6 sts; rep from * across.  Ch 3, turn. 

Row 10:  Skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 5 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 6 sts; *skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 6 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 6 sts; rep from * across.  Ch 3, turn.

Row 11:  SEPARATION:  Skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 6 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 7 sts; **skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 7 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 7 sts**; skip the next 3 patterns for the sleeve; rep between **'s 4 times, this for the back; skip the next 3 patterns for second sleeve; rep between **'s twice.  (Sleeves will be worked latr).  ch 3, turn. 

Row 12:  Skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 6 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 7 sts; *skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 7 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 7 sts; rep from * across row.  Ch 3, turn.

Row 13:  Work in the same way but each pattern has: 1 dc in next 8 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 8 sts.  ch3, turn. 

Row 14:  work in the same way but each pattern has 1 dc in next 8 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 8 sts.  Ch3, turn.

Row 15:  Wor in the same way but each pattern has 1 dc in next 9 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 9 sts.  Ch 3, turn.

Row 16:  Work in the same way but each pattern has 1 dc in next 9 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 9 sts.  Ch 3, turn. 

Row 17:  Work in the same way but each pattern has 1 dc in next 10 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 10 sts
(no increase) 
Ch 3, turn.

Rows 18-20:  Work as row 17.  Fasten off.

SLEEVES:  Tie yarn at the 2nd dc at the underarm edge on the first patern;  ch 3, 1 dc in next 6 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 7 sts; *skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 7 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 7 sts; rep from * once more.  Ch 3, turn. 

Row 2:  Skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 6 sts; 3 c in next st; 1 dc in next 7 sts; *skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 7 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 7 sts; rep from * once more.  ch 3, turn. 

Rows 3-7:  Repeat row 2.  Fasten off.  Sew up sleeve.

BEADING AT NECK EDGE:  Tie yarn at neck edge; ch 4 sts; *skip 1 st; 1 dc in next st; ch 2, rep from * around neck.  Fasten off. 

TRIMMING:  With a #2 steel hook and using the rayon or cotton thread, sc all around the sweater. 

2nd Row:  Picot Edge:  *Make 1 sc into the next 4 sts; ch 4; sl st back into the first ch; rep from * all around sweater.  Finish the cuff of the sleeve the same way.  For ties, weave 24" of ribbon through beading at neck.

BONNET:

Rnd 1: With yarn and F hook, ch 4 sts; join with sl st to form a ring.  6 sc into the ring. 

Rnd 2:  2 sc into each st (12).  Mark the first st of each rnd as you go. 

Rnd 3:  * 1 sc in next st; 2 sc in next st; rep from  * around.

Rnd 4:* 1 sc in next 2 sts; 2 sc in next st; rep from * around. 

Rnd 5:  *1 sc in next 3 sts; 2 sc in next st; rep  from * around. 

Rnd 6:  *1 sc in next 4 sts; 2 sc in next st; rep from * around. 

Rnd 7:  *1 sc in next 5 sts; 2 sc in next st; rep from * around. 

Rnd 8:  *1 sc in next 6 sts; 2 sc in next st; rep from * around. 

Rnd 9: *1 sc in next 7 sts; 2 sc in next st; rep from * around. 

Rnd 10:  * 1 sc in next 8 sts; 2 sc in next st; rep from * around. 

Rnd 11:  * 1 sc in next 9 sts; 2 sc in next st; rep from * around. 

Rnd 12:  *1 sc in next 10 sts; 2 sc in next st; rep from * around. 

Rnd 13:  *1 sc in next 11 sts; 2 sc in next st; rep from * around. 

Rnd 14:  *1 sc in next 12 sts; 2 sc in next st; rep from * around.  Sl st in next st, ch 3, turn.

Row 1:  Make 1 dc in next 68 sts; ch 3, turn. 

Row 2:  Make 1 dc into each st into back loop only across row.  Ch 3, turn.  Repeat row 2 until piece measure 4 inches from the back of the bonnet (edge of last sc row). 

FRONT FRILL:  Ch 3; 1 dc in next st; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 2 sts; *skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 2 sts; 3 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 2 sts; rep from * 8 times more. 

NEXT ROW:  Ch 3, turn; skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next st; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 2 sts; *skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 2 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 2  sts; rep from * across. 

NEXT ROW:  Ch 3, turn;  skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 2 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 3 sts; *skip 2 sts; 1 dc in next 3 sts; 5 dc in next st; 1 dc in next 3 sts; rep from * across row.  Fasten off.

NECK  BAND:  Sc along one side of the front, across back sts and across 2nd front.  make 3 rows of sc into each st.  Fasten off.  Trim frill with crochet cotton same as for sweater.  Sew 12" ribbon to each side front of bonnet for ties.

BOOTIES:
Instep and Sole:  Using yarn, ch 10.  Make 1 sc into 2nd st from hook and in each of the remaining 8 sts.  ch1, turn.  Work 1 sc into each st.  Work 7 rows more of sc.  Ch 27, join with sl st to corner of instep.  Make 9 sc along side of instep; 9 sc across toe; 9 sc along 2nd side of instep and 1 sc into each of the 27 chs.  Work 7 rows more of sc into each st.  Fasten off.  Tie yarn at the center of the ch and make 1 dc into each st around (36 sts).  Ch3, turn.  Row 2:  Make 1 dc into each st in back loops only across.  Repeat row 2 until you have 7 rows in all.  fasten off.  Sew up back and sole of bootie.  Trim with crochet cotton same as for sweater.  Weave ribbon into row 1 around ankle.  Make other bootie the same way.
