In January, 2003, I retired and became Professor Emeritus. I continue to participate in department activities and to direct research. However most of my time presently is devoted to being president and CEO of ViewPlus Technologies, Inc., a company that
was founded several years ago to commercialize products from my
Oregon State University Science
Access Project research group. This group is dedicated to research on information technologies providing universal access to scientific information. I founded the Science Access Project after I lost my sight in 1988.
I continue to direct research in the Science Access Project.
My more traditional physics research largely revolves around the "hyperfine" technique Gamma-gamma
perturbed angular correlation spectroscopy (PAC) with focus on microscopic
structural properties of materials. PhD student Mauro Alves is developing a computational model for analysis of time-dependent PAC data on group IV oxides. He expects to understand better the effects of static imperfections and dynamic effects of oxide vacancies in these technologically important materials.
