Extended Characters in File Info Fields Don't Appear Correctly in Photoshop 6.0 or Later

Issue

If you enter extended characters (for example, umlauts, accents, or non-roman and double-byte fonts) in a File Info field of Adobe Photoshop 6.0 or later, the characters appear incorrectly when you view the Photoshop file on a different platform. For example, extended characters appear as question marks (?) or brackets ( [ ] ).
Solution

Use only low ASCII characters (that is, A-Z, a-z, 0-9, and roman punctuation marks) in the File Info fields.

Additional Information

Photoshop supports the information standard developed by the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC) to identify transmitted text and images. This standard supports only low ASCII characters.

This standard includes the File Info categories for captions, keywords, categories, credits, and origins.
