BenQ on board for Portugal
UEFA has today announced that BenQ will be an official IT partner of UEFA EURO 2004™ in Portugal next summer.
The signing ceremony was staged at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland with UEFA Chief Executive Gerhard Aigner and Conway Lee, managing director of BenQ Europe. BenQ joins NTT Com and Portugal Telecom as official technology partners, and Canon, Carlsberg, Coca-Cola, Hyundai Motor Company, JVC, MasterCard, McDonald's and T-Mobile as official partners in the UEFA EURO 2004™ marketing programme.
It is a landmark agreement for European football's governing body as it means the completion of the marketing programme. This has been achieved in record time - with still more than six months to go until the tournament starts - and underlines the strength of the UEFA European Football Championship.
"UEFA EURO 2004™ promises to be a spectacular sporting event enjoyed by millions all over the world," said Mr Aigner. "This will now be significantly enhanced by the technology and support services provided by our newest sponsor, BenQ.
"BenQ will be providing UEFA and Euro 2004, S.A with leading-edge hardware and peripherals and will also be the official statistics provider on euro2004.com, helping to maximise the enjoyment for fans around the world by providing real-time information at the touch of a button."
Mr Lee, BenQ Europe managing director, said: "The UEFA European Football Championship is recognised for the quality of football and the enjoyment the tournament brings to the fans around the world. This reflects our values at BenQ where our mission is to enhance the lifestyles and enjoyment of our worldwide customers through provision of a quality digital experience. Therefore our partnership with UEFA is a perfect fit and one of which we are immensely proud."
Dr Gilberto Madaíl, Euro 2004 S.A. chairman, added: "On behalf of all of us in Portugal, I am delighted to welcome BenQ to the family of official sponsors. I am confident that their technology solutions will support us in our mission to stage the most exciting and passionate UEFA European Championship yet. "
