 The Joint Strike Fighter program is the US Department of Defense’s focal point for defining an affordable next-generation strike aircraft weapon systems for the US Air Force, Navy, Marines, and US allies. The focus of the program is affordability: reducing the development, production, and ownership costs of the JSF family of aircraft. A key program requirement is the demonstration of key leveraging technologies and operational concepts prior to the start of Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase in 2001. Current plans indicate the program will be operational in 2008. |
