This DVD release, coinciding with the 2003 ARIA Awards ceremony, is like the full stop at the end of an amazing story in the life of Australia's most successful debutante: Delta Goodrem. After a low-profile attempt at the limelight when Sony Music signed her as a 16 year old, Delta gained fame through her role on Neighbours and the show's fanatical fans gave the young pop star all the momentum she needed. What came next dwarfed Delta's wildest dreams: four consecutive number one singles, a record breaking number one album, success in the UK charts and 10 ARIA nominations. Wow, it will take many years for a local artist to better the achievements of Ms Goodrem, if it ever happens at all. Of course, you'd have to be living in a cave to have missed the tragic news of Delta's recent diagnosis and her ongoing fight with cancer. It doesn't take a clairvoyant to predict the outcome of the 2003 ARIA awards ceremony and it's quite possible that Delta will make 10 trips to the stage. MGF take the term 'white trash' to a new low. They are several hundred episodes of Jerry Springer; they are the reason why you wash your hands after using a public toilet; they are the reason you give your kids a curfew; they are easily the most entertaining live combo in Australia. Combining overt sexuality, cabaret and music has become their specialty and with the release of the Paging Mr Strike album they quickly became one of the success stories of 2002. Few people could resist their infectious singles but I don't know a single person who can walk away from one of their twisted live performances. The best of those live performances (at Sydney's Metro) and a brilliant MGF documentary are included on To Pusseytown And Back plus unseen footage and exclusive images. For those who love their music with a demented and comical edge, To Pussytown And Back is a must.

Ted Mulry's 'rags to riches' story is like a musical version of Paul Hogan's rise to fame. Ted, a bulldozer driver from England, wasn't interested in performing; he considered himself to be a songwriter. Industry folks had other ideas and the rest is history. Ted had hits as a solo artist but it wasn't until he strapped on a bass guitar and renamed his outfit (Ted Mulry Gang or TMG) that he cemented his place in Australian rock history. His part in the evolution of our sound and his respect among peers is easily gauged when you check the line-up of the benefit concerts organised after the legendary performer was diagnosed with cancer in 2001: INXS, Rose Tattoo, Tim Freedman (The Whitlams), Mental As Anything, Billy Thorpe, Russel Morris and many more. With two discs packed with highlights from the shows, Gimme Ted is a fitting farewell for one of the fathers of Oz Rock.

With the renewed campaign to make Diorama a world-wide hit and match the success within Australia, Whammo visitors have the unique opportunity to stay one step ahead with yet another single release (the 4th): Across the Night. The track was an inspired composition by Daniels, induced by a dream and written when his natural talents for songwriting were at a peak. This, the opening track on Diorama, remains Johns’ favourite and is accompanied by the well-publicized video, featuring Australian actor Guy Pierce. The timing of this release coincides with a sold-out national tour, which will precede a world tour beginning in Brazil. It’s a relief for the boys to finally take the ground-breaking sounds of Diorama to the world stage and Across the Night, with it’s dramatic arrangements and richly textured instrumentation will surely be a highlight of those shows. The DVD format contains videos for Across the Night and After All These Years plus a live performance of The Greatest View from the ARIA Awards; a performance that will be remembered as the beginning of Silverchair's return to the live stage. This is the first time Silverchair have released a DVD single in Australia.

My earliest memories of Split Enz are from the classic Countdown (ABC TV) era when all you needed for video production was a smoke machine. In the 80s bands like Split Enz substituted any lack of effects by making themselves a special effect and the results were so entertaining that the punters were always waiting in anticipation for their next television appearance. From early beginnings with hits like I See Red, Australians fell in love with the quirky Kiwis and the careers of the Finn brothers have proved the songwriting talents the band possessed. Crowded House fans should take note of this release: it introduces you to Neil Finn in his young and raw state, complete with make-up. 18 clips have been remastered for this release and not one fails to be entertaining, humorous and endearing. With Daniel Johns on the road to recovery, this documentary sheds some light on 2002; Silverchair's most troubling but inpirational year. Kylie truly was the prom-queen and this really was her homecoming. Sold out shows around the country saw Kylie perform her first live shows in Australia for nine years (the last performances were for the Rhythm Of Love tour in 1990). All grown up, she sang and danced her wee heart out and validated her newly re-found acceptance in Australia. The Impossible Princess tour marked the time Kylie became very cool to everyone back home. All the hits from Impossible Princess, Some Kind Of Bliss, Did It Again and Breathe were covered, while she also embraced some older, cheesier hits such as Locomotion and What Do I Have To Do, dignifying them by re-making them into classy numbers.
