Hyundai in driving seat for Portugal
Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) has been confirmed as the official automotive partner for UEFA EURO 2004™.
UEFA Chief Executive Gerhard Aigner and HMC President and CEO Dong-Jin Kim announced the deal today at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland. HMC will provide official cars under the Hyundai brand to ensure a smooth and efficient operation of transportation and logistics throughout next year's tournament.
Proud of partnership
Hyundai was also a partner of EURO 2000™, where official vehicles were provided for the tournament that took place in Belgium and the Netherlands. Mr Aigner said: "We are very proud that they have signed up as the official automotive partner for UEFA EURO 2004™."
He added: "The UEFA European Football Championship in Portugal will be one of the world's largest sporting events, celebrating European football as its best. I am very pleased that we will have Hyundai in our family of official partners for the UEFA EURO 2004™ tournament."
Dong-Jin Kim said: "It is an extraordinary privilege for Hyundai Motor Company to strengthen its partnership with UEFA by sponsoring UEFA EURO 2004™. I am very pleased and proud that we are supporting this sports event - one of the most popular in the world."
Also present at the event was Dr Gilberto Madaíl, President of the Portuguese Football Association and Chairman of the Board of Euro 2004, S.A.. Former Dutch international Johann Cruyff, HMC's football ambassador, is also expected to take part in the proceedings later in the day.
Dr Madaíl said: "The organisation of the biggest European football event in ten stadia throughout Portugal is a logistical challenge that Hyundai can help us achieve through the supply of a large number of cars and vehicles." He added that he had been given a sneak preview of the new Hyundai XG, the official car of UEFA EURO 2004™. "I was very impressed," he said. "I look forward to seeing these cars being used throughout Portugal."
Hyundai Motor Company join Canon, Carlsberg, Coca-Cola, JVC and McDonald's as official partners, and NTT Com, the official IT partner, in the UEFA EURO 2004™ programme.
