Stamp of approval for CTT
Postal service CTT Correios de Portugal have signed up as the first of the official national supporters of UEFA EURO 2004™.
The official signing ceremony took place in Lisbon, and was attended by Philippe Margraff, UEFA Director of Marketing; Dr Gilberto Madail, Portuguese Football Federation president and Chairman of the Board of Euro 2004, S.A.; Dr Carlos Horta e Costa, president of the board of CTT Correios; and Herminio Loureiro, Portuguese State Secretary for Youth and Sport.
Speaking at the signing, Mr Margraff said: "This is a very special day for UEFA, the signing of the first national supporter of UEFA EURO 2004™. The national supporter programme is extremely important. There will be a limited group of six companies and CTT is the first. They will play a key role in making the hosting of UEFA EURO 2004™ a success. They will bring the passion for football and for EURO 2004™ to everyone in Portugal."
Dr Madail said he was delighted to welcome the first Portuguese partnership for UEFA EURO 2004™. "I am very happy to see such a prestigious company as CTT joining such a prestigious event," he added.
CTT board president Carlos Horta e Costa said: "We are committed body and soul to UEFA EURO 2004™." Meanwhile, government minister Leireiro said: "The Portuguese Government wants to make EURO 2004™ a successful event. It is a strategic opportunity to promote Portugal as a brand."
CTT will be allowed exclusive rights of brand identification, stadium promotions, advertising and commercial benefits in their commercial sector. They will take responsibility for producing a range of philatelic products to commemorate the tournament. No other country or postal organisation will be able to use official EURO 2004™ images on stamps or other philatelic objects.
CTT say they expect to launch several illustrated postal letters to cope with the considerable demand for such products. Normal postal and pre-postage stamps with images suggestive of the mascot, logo and event trophy as well as other motifs are already being planned.
In addition, CTT's 1,079 offices across Portugal will be embracing the spirit of EURO 2004™ through advertising and associated merchandising.
