Get up to speed on security!

In light of the ongoing national focus on security, water utilities across the country are vigilantly protecting our nation's water supplies. Safe and secure drinking water is the highest priority, and water utilities are continuing to assess their vulnerabilities and taking action to maintain and improve security. The American Water Works Association is working to provide utilities with the training and tools necessary to continue to protect public health and meet new security challenges

Cyber Security Seminar
Much has changed recently in the business of delivering safe, high-quality drinking water. Concerns about the nation’s public water supplies were raised within weeks of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks when the FBI issued a national warning about possible terrorist threats directed to water supplies. One area of concern is cyber security. In this seminar, participants will learn what types of action should be taken to secure SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems and other computer-based systems from outside intrusion.
July 14-15, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
October 7-8, Peoria, Arizona

Contamination Monitoring Technologies Seminar
This all-new seminar will familiarize attendees with the types and capabilities of the available contamination monitoring technologies and will discuss emerging technologies for contamination monitoring. You’ll learn to evaluate contamination monitoring technologies for use in early warning systems and for analysis of contaminants during a suspected contamination event.
July 20-21, Elmhurst (Chicago), Illinois
September 9-10, Henderson (Las Vegas), Nevada

Security Hardware Seminar
Free training thanks to USEPA funding.
To help you prepare for possible threats or intentional attacks to your utility, AWWA is offering an all-new seminar designed to help you assess the pros and cons of various security hardware and their application to water and wastewater utilities. Based upon the recently released USEPA Security Hardware Guides, this training will give you all the information needed to make smart decisions on hardware to increase security at your utility. You’ll also receive your own copy of the USEPA Buyer’s Guide to use as a reference.
July 8-9, Nashville, Tennessee SOLD OUT!
July 28-29, Syracuse, New York

Emergency Response Planning (ERP) Seminar
Get the in-depth information you need to effectively put together an emergency response plan
You’ve completed your Vulnerability Assessment—now what? The next step is to provide the USEPA with certification that your utility has completed an Emergency Response Plan (ERP). Emergency response plans are required under the Bioterrorism Act of 2002. Each utility will need to incorporate the results of their Vulnerability Assessment into an existing or new ERP.

With this new seminar, you’ll learn from experts with practical experience developing these plans and putting them into effect (see bios below). This is your opportunity to be trained on the elements that go into this critical plan and how to effectively implement it.

Don’t wait until the last minute to sign up for this course! You must certify to USEPA that your emergency response plan is completed six months after completion of your vulnerability assessment.
August 4-5, Kansas City, Missouri
October 5-6, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
November 16-17, Denver, Colorado

Maintaining and Securing Your Water Distribution System Seminar
Managers of water distribution systems have to be prepared to face any challenge that may impact their infrastructure and ultimately their customers. The level of response needed has been discussed at length in every sector of government in this country. The key to this preparedness depends on an agency's ability to provide effective maintenance and safety programs, an operations plan that incorporates a quality level of existence and the assessment of its vulnerability with a plan to respond to all threats. This two-day seminar will present you with state-of-the-art corrective and preventive maintenance materials, along with other information to aid in preparing to meet the challenges of these critical issues confronting water providers today.
July 8-9, Vancouver, British Columbia
September 23-24, Chicago, Illinois
