Training stuff.

I was wondering do many of your trainers make you go backwards and fight off all of your rear movments? I imagine most would . If not, practice firing shots while in retreat, you can disrupt the attackers momentum totally by thinking and firing in between his footsteps as he gives chase. You can catch them with both your body weight and theirs working against them right there. Practice with your sparring partners taking the chaseing attacking role; then the retreating counter attacking role. You'll learn more about your shots and when to get them off with power from doing that than anything else.
Subtle angles in footwork can force someone to have to totally rethink their strategy as they come forward. You can fire shots with your feet planted equal or with your front foot in the air on the down stroke or the up stroke or your back foot on the raise or just the heel it all depends on the distance and at which point your in range.

It's amazing how many fighters you see who can't fight going backwards. Maybe this whole scoring for aggression makes people think you just have to keep coming forward to win.

Not especially but I have made it part of mine because I like to counter and bringing people on so I make sure I practice the basic footwork, all the boxing manuals show it for god's sake.
