Ben "The Bear" Fogle and Sid "The Snake" Owen go toe to toe for charity on Saturday as they battle for the Sport Relief Light Entertainment belt.

The two amateur boxers will slug it out over three one-and-a-half minute rounds, with the nation judging the fight by text message in a bid to find the undisputed people's champion.

The pair are backed by experienced professionals from the world of boxing - and both sides are confident of victory.

So who is edging ahead on points in the pre-match hype stakes?

Read on and decide:

THE RED CORNER - BEN FOGLE

THE BEAR
My father is Canadian and used to take me anti-bear training in Hyde Park. I think of a bear as a big, mean scary animal that I should shy away from. I thought that would scare Sid a little bit
Ben Fogle

"I'm not a naturally aggressive person. It's not my persona and I have never raised my hands in my life, but a bit of sparring has got my mind set to what is ahead and I'm fired up.

"Jim McDonnell is a hard trainer and I dread going in to the gym.

"After the first few rounds of sparring I felt like jelly.

"People often say it's a mindless sport but it's totally the contrary.

"I have never known a sport where you have to think so much.

"I am hoping I have a bad side waiting to get out somewhere - and I think it is fair to say I have got a reach advantage!

"I'm also very stubborn and when I say yes to something I give it my all. I believe my stubborness will see me through.

HIS MENTOR - FRANK BRUNO

"Ben seems determined and I'm confident he will win.

"My main advice to him would be to train as much as he can and to sleep as much as he can."

"But I'll tell him to keep his gloves on in bed. We don't want any distractions in the build-up to the fight!"

HIS TRAINER - JIM McDONNELL

"Once Ben takes a punch, all his poshness will go!

"In the space of six weeks neither of these guys are going to become Sugar Ray Leonard. This fight is going to come down to the mind and who is in the better condition.

"Ben has a stubborn attitude and if his mind is right on the night then he will be in control.

When he came in from marathon training he was shocked at how drained the boxing made him feel, but that is his mind playing tricks on him.

He hasn't had time to work on the technical side. He has just had to get himself in tremendous shape, be technically strong and just go for it.

He's had to stop working with animals and concentrate on being an animal - it's going to be a war!

THE BLUE CORNER - SID OWEN

THE SNAKE
Bears don't like snakes do they? I chose the nickname because of the venom - the poison. And I like to attack from low down!
Sid Owen

"I used to box a bit when I was younger at a boxing club, so hopefully I know what I am doing.

"My fitness went downhill when I joined EastEnders and I enjoyed a bit of the high life, so it's good to be motivated to get fit again.

"I have been doing a lot of sparring, ab work, running and circuit training, but the best training by far is the sparring.

"I'm doing something every day and I'm off the booze and eating plenty of bananas!

"But, to me, the most important thing is that I know what it is like to be hit. There is no way I could go in there not knowing that.

"That doesn't just come from my boxing training. In EastEnders, I once got a heavy slap from Mike Reid and I started seeing stars. He is a big old boy!

HIS TRAINER - FRANK MALONEY

We know how fit the other guy is but we are not worried.

I did a book launch with Ben and saw he was wearing make-up. How can a man wearing make-up go and fight? It's like a lamb to the slaughter.

"Sid does six rounds of sparring a day and that is what a normal pro would do.

"We gave him a 30 minutes assessment when we first got together and the first thing you notice about Sid is that he has got fantastic legs for a boxer.

"They are good solid trunks - and that means he can throw good punches and take them too.

"And he is already ugly, so he hasn't got any worries about being hit.

"But this is a good opportunity to show our sport in a different light. It's all for a good cause - and this fight will probably get better viewing figures than a professional fight on TV."

HIS MENTOR - BARRY McGUIGAN

"Sid is just getting his memory back.

"He knows the fundamentals of boxing and while Ben might be taller and is a good runner, when you are taking punches it is a different kettle of fish.

"You can be the fittest guy in the world, but when you get in there and start swapping punches with someone who knows what they are doing then you can forget about the fitness.

"You can't give somebody your heart. You can't help them if they can't take it. But Sid knows what he is doing.

"He can take a punch and throw one too - He has got a muck-spreading right hand - and Ben has got a wonderful long nose!"

"Watching these guys will give people an idea of what it is like to be a boxer and the monastic life you have to live to be even reasonably successful."

Ben Fogle and Sid Owen will fight for the Sport Relief Light Entertainment Belt during the live BBC television show on 10 July. Vote for the winner by text message to decide the ultimate people's champion.
