Injuries end Stanic career
Chelsea midfielder Mario Stanic
Stanic's career was dogged by injury
Chelsea's Croatian international Mario Stanic has been forced to retire at the age of 32 due to injury, says the official club website.

Stanic, who joined the club from Parma in June 2000, played 80 games for the Blues but injured knee ligaments in his second match and struggled ever since.

The midfielder had a year left on his contract but has chosen to retire now.

The club said his decision was understandable and they wished him luck "for whatever comes next."
