History
Gifted multi-instrumentalist Chris Freeman was noted for his exacting six- and 12-string guitar technique, although he was also adept at playing bass, organ, piano and synthesiser. His main influences included guitar virtuosos like Manitas de Plata and Paco Pena. Freeman garnered considerable praise for his work, but he never embraced the notion of mainstream acceptance. He recorded a series of independent albums that earned him a cult following.

Freeman commenced guitar lessons at the age of eight, and by 16 had begun to experiment with multi-track recording and electronic sound effects combined with guitar. He lost the top of his left middle finger when it was severed in a car accident at 17. To compensate, he had a sterling silver cap fitted, hence the title of his 1976 album Thesilger (i.e. silver finger). He often performed with orchestral backing tapes (created using a Fairlight CMI), or with contributions from noted orchestral arranger and synthesiser player John Shaw. As well as issuing several independent albums, Freeman put out the 7-inch EP Chris Freeman (`Autumn', `Song for a Lost Friend'/`Disco Flamenco', `Astrida'). Freeman died in 1992 as a result of an asthma attack.
