Some People Never Learn

Judy Emerson, a columnist for the Rockford Register Star and the wife of Register Star columnist and front-page editor Pat Cunningham, was one of the most vocal advocates of Rockford’s 13-year-long school desegregation lawsuit, which cost somewhere between a quarter and a third of a billion dollars (a proper accounting will probably never be conducted), drove Rockford’s property taxes to the highest in the nation, and put the final nail in the coffin of Rockford’s public schools. So it’s easy to understand why, almost two years after a federal appeals court brought the case to an end, she’s still defending it.
