Portage, Indiana, a city of 32,500 people, is located in the Northwest corner of Indiana on the southern tip of Lake Michigan, approximately fifty miles east of Chicago, Illinois. The Portage Police Department employs fifty-two sworn and twenty-two reserve officers as well as fourteen civilians.
