Clone Wars Comics Begin This Week
February 25, 2003

The saga of the Clone Wars will soon be coming to novels, toys and television, but it's comic books that are the first on the scene with dramatic depictions of the struggle that tore apart the galaxy and sounded the death knell of the Old Republic. Here's a look at two Clone Wars-related titles due to hit comic stores this week from Dark Horse Comics.

The Threat of a Jedi Schism
[ Star Wars: Jedi -- Mace Windu ]Count Dooku's departure sent ripples through the Jedi Order that have developed into breaking waves by the time of the Clone Wars. The call to arms by the Jedi Council has been met with resistance by a few within the Jedi ranks: some refused to serve a questionable government in their new roles as army generals.

Mace Windu has been dispatched to investigate this growing schism, as four renowned Jedi leaders have been united by the latest dissident, Sora Bulq. Windu departs for Ruul, a Sriluurian moon to parley with the disenfranchised Jedi, and discovers a new threat: a Force-wielding enemy in the form of Asajj Ventress.

Spotlight: Asajj Ventress
A ruthless and cunning military mastermind, the beautiful and deadly Asajj Ventress was discovered by Count Dooku on a war-torn planet shortly after the Battle of Geonosis. She demonstrates a natural and corrupt mastery of the Force, and is a formidable opponent with her paired curved lightsabers.

Kamino Under Attack
[ Star Wars: Republic -- The Defense of Kamino ] The Confederacy is making a bold push against the Republic's most important asset: the cloning facilities on Kamino. Due to the efforts of Jedi intelligence agents, the Republic knows of this strike, and for once can anticipate a Separatist attack. The stage is set for an epic battle in space, over the seas, and in the heart of Tipoca City, a battle so big it must be told in three parts in the super-sized 50th issue of Star Wars: Republic.

"Brother in Arms" chronicles the valiant starfighter defense of Kamino, as Jedi pilots fly against swarms of droid starfighters. Obi-Wan Kenobi and his brash Padawan Anakin Skywalker end up in the churning oceans of Kamino, facing not only Separatist fire but the ravenous wildlife of the endless seas. This chapter is written by John Ostrander, with art by Jan Duursema and Dan Parsons.

The action continues indoors in "Jango's Legacy" as the pristine corridors of Tipoca City are stained by warfare. Battle droid intruders cut their way towards the defenseless immature clones, prompting Prime Minister Lama Su to reveal a secret weapon: the Republic's limited number of elite ARC troopers. Shaak Ti leads this new fighting force into battle. This chapter is written by Haden Blackman, with art by Stephen Thompson and Ray Kryssing.

The battle switches to the Separatist point of view as a daring Mon Calamari commander leads a strike that begins in the upper orbit of Kamino and reaches to its watery depths. Armed with information from a secret source, the Separatists can split Tipoca City's vulnerable underbelly, but who has provided this information, and to what end?

"No End in Sight" is written by Scott Allie, with art by Tomas Giorello and Ray Kryssing
