Alongside a giant screen showing the events from Athens, the Fast Forward festival will showcase the sort of arts and culture which would feature in London's cultural programme.

PM: "I'm more enthusiastic than ever"

16 August: Tony Blair has declared he is more enthusiastic than ever about London hosting the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

The Prime Minister, fresh from watching the Athens Opening Ceremony and some of the early events, said London had everything the Games needed.

Work starts on Aquatics Centre

16 August: Work is starting on London 2012's flagship swimming facilities in the proposed Olympic Park site in east London.

Meanwhile, the next generation of swimmers who may use the facilities are being encouraged in a free swim scheme backed by London 2012.
