Formed in 1972 | Style | Country rock | | Original line-up: Terry Dean (vocals, guitar), Mike Burke (guitar, banjo), Edward Fry (bass), John Creech (drums; ex-Mixtures) | | Albums: Bluestone (Bootleg, 1974), The Closer You Get (Avenue, 1982). | History Melbourne singer Terry Dean formed country rock band Bluestone. He had enjoyed a semi-successful solo career during the 1960s, having recorded two singles for the Go!! label, `It's You'/`Stagger Lee' (June 1965) and `The Answer to Everything'/`Git It!' (April 1966). Dean's backing band around that time was the original Mixtures line-up.
Brian Cadd signed Bluestone to Bootleg Records, which issued eight singles and a self-titled album. `Wind and Rain'/`Road to Nowhere' (May 1973), `The Singer Sang the Song'/`Sing Me a Rainbow' (October 1973), `Ride on'/`The Only Girl' (August 1975) and `Rock and Roll Crazy'/`Say That You Need Me' (April 1977) were minor hits in Melbourne. Laurie Arthur and Nigel Thompson replaced Mick Burke and Edward Fry respectively in 1975. By the early 1980s, the band had made the move into straight country. The band's last three singles were `Single Again'/`Keep on Dancing' (July 1981), `Remember'/`Oh, How She Loves Me' (April 1982) and `Same Party'/`Time Won't Change' (1984). |
