Beer Belly

CNN is running this story about a bear getting drunk and passing out in the campground:

Bear guzzles 36 beers, passes out at campground

Thursday, August 19, 2004 Posted: 9:32 AM EDT (1332 GMT)

SEATTLE, Washington (Reuters) -- A black bear was found passed out at a campground in Washington state recently after guzzling down three dozen cans of a local beer, a campground worker said on Wednesday.

"We noticed a bear sleeping on the common lawn and wondered what was going on until we discovered that there were a lot of beer cans lying around," said Lisa Broxson, a worker at the Baker Lake Resort, 80 miles (129 kilometers) northeast of Seattle.

The hard-drinking bear, estimated to be about two years old, broke into campers' coolers and, using his claws and teeth to open the cans, swilled down the suds.

It turns out the bear was a bit of a beer sophisticate. He tried a mass-market Busch beer, but switched to Rainier Beer, a local ale, and stuck with it for his drinking binge.

Wildlife agents chased the bear away, but it returned the next day, said Broxson.

They set a trap using as bait some doughnuts, honey and two cans of Rainier Beer. It worked, and the bear was captured for relocation.

Poor Clementine!

I was watching Reno 911 last night with Marcia, and really enjoyed the show a lot - I was always hoping they'd feature more of Clemmie.

I felt so bad fr her at the end - with that forlorn lost look...poor Clementine!

...and those public service announcements! They are getting pretty damn good at showing 30 second comedy clips!

Asian Fever on TV

Good friends of mine know I like Asian women - especially japanese, but chinese also have a top-ranking position. Not the haughty ones, though - they are too disturbing.

What I really want is a spanish-asian TV channel - maybe Katsumi (mature link) could host the network Yes, I know she's French and Vietnamese, but damn, how does that matter when we're talking eye candy? Plenty of stupid men and gorgeous women running around or sitting on cushions talking about fasion - but really just there for stupid male edification, that they hate, but at the same time thrive on.

Ah, TV, and what it was meant for.

Streaming TiVo is flaky

Gah!

Sometimes it streams fine, sometimes it can't find the server...gotta figure out why TiVoServer is such a piece of crap, even 1.1.

Moving Servers

Migrating to a new Shuttle PC with an AMD chip on it. First AMD I've owned. I've been Intel all the way because at least I know what the stability is. With AMD allowing you to fry your CPU, somehow, that just disturbed me. Growing pains of a young company, I guess.

For AMD CPU's remember to always take off the plastic covering on the metal copper shim; they don't bother to tell you that in the instruction manual. And spread the silicone gel thin, not thick. Otherwise, it traps heat.

Before I did those two things, I couldn't get the damn PC to even boot at it's rated speed for more than 1 minute. After doing the research (“paying my dues“), 1 week, full speed, no problems.

Update: Server move went well. :) And the blog is zippier too, after being migrated off a P2-450 to an AMD 2800+. SQL Server doesn't take 45 seconds to resolve and return data anymore.

Back alive

The project from hell (that I was invited to help solve) is over. It's been a success (at the development stage), and today, I demo it for the support team. I'll be describing the project, and it's gory details, later. I really want to chronicle what went down and how I learned from it.

XBox, Avalaunch and more...

I'm hoping to mod my box tonight, and get in my 160GB drive. My bios is only on 3979.06, so I have to flash the thing to get the full 160. We shall see, esp. if the thing starts to overheat.

After I looked at Avalaunch 0.49, I have realized that there is no going back to EvoX dashboard. Unfortunately, I've had to hack my box to get AvaLaunch to be the default because I'm too scared to flash my bios...but AvaLaunch, so far, is the hands-down winner on the dashbaord realm. Especially with the streaming audio set up and ready to go after install!

I have a copy of the AvaLaunch rar file in MassStorage.

Gig three...

I'm back at my former site again, hopefully to help a fellow consultant finish a job that has had serious overruns, scope creep, and generally a bad time. It's still nice to be out consulting; it's a lot easier on the mind, as long as you like to fight fires and conquer challenges.

If you're a sit-at-home person, or someone who like to know the direction, consulting certaintly isn't for you. If you like to go out, see a problem, then figure out the solution, this is the life.

...we gotta wear shades...

I've semi-officially gave my notice at the current job - it's time to head out. Luckily for me - don't know if it's from re-starting my buddhist practice, or just luck - I may have another gig lined up. For the time being, I will work full time at one gig, then head home to work part-time at the other one. On 6 hrs of sleep a

My Cracked XBOX!

WOW!

I've have two sleepless nights because of my “new” Xbox. XBMC is awesome. Playing Sopranos right after downloading it is awesome. Checking the weather is awesome...my new xbox is awesome!

If anyone has an XBox, and hasn't had it modded, go do it. Pay someone the extra $$$, and have it done TODAY. It's less than an hour, and the machine become a hell of a lot more interesting. Make sure that you get a file copy program, and start filling the box!

I am still using the crappy 10GB drive that came with the machine...I have a 160 to put in, then all my video and pictures are getting moved to the box!
