The following is a summary of incidents in eastern Montgomery County to which Montgomery County Police responded recently. The words "arrested" and "charged" do not imply guilt.

Silver Spring area

Strong-arm robbery

*Aug. 13: Three men punched a 41-year-old Silver Spring man and tried to steal his wallet 10 p.m., as he was walking on a path in the 9000 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring. During the attack, the victim yelled for the police and the robbers, who were black, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed 150 pounds each, dropped the wallet and fled.

Aggravated assault/arrest

*Aug. 9: Jose Gonsalez, 22, of Hyattsville was charged with first- and second-degree assault about 3:45 p.m. The arrest was a result of a fight earlier in the day that occurred in the 8500 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring, where police allege Gonsalez cut someone with scissors.

Burglary arrest

*Aug. 9: A 17-year-old Silver Spring boy was charged with fourth-degree burglary after the teen tried to enter his mother's home, from which he had been previously removed.

Rape

*July 19: A 14-year-old Silver Spring girl reported that a male acquaintance came to her residence and raped her when she refused his advances. The man threatened to have intercourse with the victim's younger sister if she did not comply. The suspect's identity is known and the investigation is continuing.

Sex assaults

*Aug. 10: A 16-year-old Silver Spring girl reported that a 55-year-old man, living in the same residence, sexually assaulted her. The man's identity is known and the investigation is continuing.

*Aug. 12: A 13-year-old Silver Spring girl went to a friend's house about 5:30 p.m. Two teenage boys were there, but neither was the friend. The girl reported that she fell asleep and when she awoke, her shirt was open.

One of the boys was Hispanic, about 14 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighed about 120 pounds. He wore a black T-shirt and blue jeans. The other was black, about 16 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighed 155 pounds. He had a mustache and wore white shoes and blue jeans.

*Lee Plaza, 8601 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, between 2 p.m. Aug. 14 and 6 a.m. Aug. 16. Pried door; unknown what was taken.

*Columbia Pike, 11100 block, between 4 p.m. Aug. 15 and 12:01 a.m. Aug. 16. Pried open door; batteries taken.

*Gateshead Manor Way, 3400 block, between unknown times Aug. 6 and reported 12:22 p.m. Aug. 14. Entered home; money taken.

Takoma Park

Sexual assault

*Aug. 19: A man fondled a woman 11:41 a.m. after trying to drag her into the bushes in the 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue.

The victim was walking through a parking lot when she noticed a man exit an early '90s model Toyota Camry that had just parked. She noticed the man following her and began to run through a building to another parking lot. The man caught up with her, grabbed her and tried to drag her into nearby bushes. The man then fondled the victim before running off when the victim screamed. The victim was not injured.

The man was black, 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighed 165 pounds, with a thin build, dark complexion, short black hair, and wore a pink long sleeved dress shirt, pink tie, black pants and black shoes.

Theft/scam

*Aug. 13: At 10 a.m. in the 1100 block of University Boulevard, a theft/scam occurred. A woman was approached by a man, who showed the woman a wallet with what appeared to be a large amount of cash inside, claiming he had just found it by her car. A second man approached, claiming to be an employee of a nearby bank who could verify authenticity of the cash and check on reports of lost wallets. The victim was told that the three could share the cash if they all put up good faith money. The victim withdrew a large sum of money from her bank and handed it over to the men with an agreement from them that they would contact her later. She reported the incident when she did not hear from them.

Both men were black. The first was in his 70s, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighed 160 pounds, and had a medium build and brown eyes. The second was in his 60s, 5 feet 5 inches, weighed 175 pounds, and had a heavy build and short hair.

Residential burglaries

*Cherry Avenue, 6900 block, between 3:30 p.m. Aug. 13 and 9:30 a.m. Aug. 14. Smashed window of house under construction; property belonging to the construction crew taken.

*Heather Avenue, 1000 block, between 2 p.m. Aug. 15 and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16. Unknown how entry to shed was gained; property taken.

*Larch Avenue, 900 block, between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. Aug. 16. Entry gained through unlocked door; property taken.

Auto theft

*Holly Avenue, 7100 block, between 10 p.m. Aug. 14 and 2:45 p.m. Aug. 15. Unknown method of theft; 1996 Dodge Caravan taken.

Arrests:

*Aug. 15: A man was cited for possession of an open alcohol container 3:36 p.m. in the 7600 block of New Hampshire Avenue.

*Aug. 16: A woman was arrested 7 p.m. in the 7500 block of Maple Avenue on an open Takoma Park warrant charging her with malicious destruction of property and theft over $500.

*Aug. 18: A man was arrested 9:19 a.m. in the 7500 block of Maple Avenue on an open Takoma Park warrant for failure to appear in court on an a charge of possession of a suspended license.

*Aug. 18: A woman was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia 1:15 p.m. in the 7700 block of Maple Avenue.

Wheaton-Glenmont area

Armed robberies

*Aug. 16: Two men, one with a gun, robbed a 21-year-old Lanham man and a 20-year-old Silver Spring man while the victims were walking in an alley 12:25 p.m. in the 2400 block of Ennalls Avenue.

One of the victims was tackled by one of the men. The other man displayed a gun and took cash from the other victim's wallet.

The men were black, about 20 years old, 6 feet 2 inches tall. One weighed about 180 pounds and had a short crew cut and goatee. He wore a baseball hat, white T-shirt and baggy jeans. The other man weighed about 200 pounds and wore his hair in cornrows and braids. He wore a black T-shirt and dark jeans.

Strong-arm robbery/arrest

*Aug. 15: Roberto Martinez-Alvarez, 28, of the 12700 block of Galt Road in Wheaton was charged with robbery, theft under $500, and second-degree assault after an incident earlier that evening in the 13500 block of Georgia Avenue in which police allege Martinez-Alvarez assaulted and robbed a taxi driver.

Burglary/arrest

*Aug. 18: Charles Lee Gates, 19, of Laurel was charged with fourth-degree burglary and malicious destruction of property over $500 after a 12:30 a.m. incident in the 3300 block of Medway Street.

Rape

*Aug. 9: A 19-year-old Rockville woman met a man at Westfield Shoppingtown Wheaton and accompanied him out of fear to a hotel, possibly in the Silver Spring area. There he raped her and forced her to perform other sexual acts. The suspect was identified and the investigation will continue.

Commercial burglaries

*Privacy World at Glenmont Metro Center, 2501 Glenallan Ave., between 5 p.m. Aug. 7 and 8 p.m. Aug. 8. Broke out side window of rental office; cash, two-way radios, TV/radio taken.

*China King, 3827 Aspen Hill Road, between 10:30 p.m. Aug. 4 and 6:30 a.m. Aug. 5. Broke through front door; cash taken.

Gaithersburg

Armed robbery

*On Aug. 16 at 10:10 p.m., two 21-year-old Gaithersburg women were walking on Honeylocust Circle in Gaithersburg when they were approached by a suspect. The suspect (black male, 5 feet 10 inches, 130-150 lbs., white hood, black jacket, blue jeans) approached them from behind and implied a knife. The victims screamed and one of them dropped her purse. The suspect picked up the purse and fled the scene.

Rape

*On Aug. 5, a 19-year-old Germantown woman reported that a 55-year-old man at a residence in Gaithersburg had raped her 7-year-old cousin. The same complainant stated that a 20-year-old man at the same residence had sexually assaulted a 4-year-old female cousin. Both suspects' identities are known and the investigation is continuing.

Sex offense

*On Aug. 11 at 9:30 a.m., a 27-year-old Gaithersburg woman was riding with a 50-year-old male in his vehicle when she reported that he touched her breasts and inner thighs. The suspect's identity is known and the investigation is continuing.

Commercial burglaries

*Rainbow Cleaners, 8407 Snouffer School Road in Gaithersburg, between 5 p.m. Aug. 12 and 6:30 a.m. Aug. 13. Pried roof vent

*G.D. Armstrong Co. Inc., 21625 Laytonsville Road in Laytonsville, on Aug. 12 at 1:36 a.m. Broke through garage door; nothing taken.

Strong-arm robbery

*On Aug. 13 at 10:30 p.m., a 50-year-old Montgomery Village man was walking at Watkins Mill and Club House roads when he was approached by three or four males wearing dark clothing. The suspects, all described as black, hit the victim in the back of the head with an unknown object. The suspects went through the victim's pockets and took his wallet, cell phone and keys, and then fled in the direction of Watkins Mills Elementary School.

Germantown

Aggravated assault

* On Aug. 4 at 4 p.m.: A 17-year-old Germantown youth and a friend were walking on a path on the south side of the railroad tracks near Wisteria Drive and Waring Station Road when they were approached by five black males who had been hiding under the overpass. The suspects approached with a knife and seemed to provoke a fight. One of the victims was cut. The suspects fled thinking the police were being called.

Sex assault

* On Aug. 9: At approximately 2 p.m. two different physical and sexual assaults were reported at a residence in Germantown. An 18-year-old Gaithersburg youth and a 17-year-old Germantown youth have been identified as the suspects in the assaults on a 17-year-old Montgomery Village girl and a 16-year-old Gaithersburg girl.

Armed robbery

* Aug. 16 at 8:30 p.m.: A 19-year-old Gaithersburg man was in the area of Stevenson Drive and Scenery Drive in Germantown when three suspects approached him. The suspects displayed knives and dragged the victim behind the townhouses. They kicked the victim, removed his clothes and wallet, and took cash. The suspects then left on foot toward Scenery Drive. All three suspects were described as black males, 20 to 25 years old, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches, about 150 pounds, wearing white T-shirts.

Bethesda

Armed robbery

*On Aug. 14: At 11:40 p.m., a 24-year-old Bethesda woman was in the 9800 block of Singleton Drive in Bethesda, when a white van pulled up along side her parked car. Two suspects got out of the van and approached the victim. One suspect produced an object that appeared to be a gun. The same suspect said, "Give me your money or I'm going to shoot you". The suspect grabbed the victim's purse and took it.

The suspect was described as a male, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing dark clothing and a ski mask.

*On Aug. 16: At approximately 4:15 p.m., The Big Screen Store, located at 11134 Rockville Pike, was robbed.

Strong arm robbery

*On Aug. 10: At 10:20 p.m., a 55-year-old Potomac woman was walking down Shady Grove Road approaching Traville Gateway Drive, when a suspect approached her from behind and pushed her to the ground. The suspect grabbed her pocket book containing cash and a cell phone. The victim sustained several cuts to her elbow and hand. The suspect continued running towards Piney Meetinghouse Road.

The suspect was described as a black male, 6 feet 3 inches tall, 220 pounds, wearing a white polo shirt and dark pants.

Peeping Tom

*On Aug. 7: At 3:30 a.m., a 24-year-old Bethesda woman and her father were sitting in their home when they noticed a suspect peering into a window. The suspect ran away after the victims banged on the window.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 20 to 25, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 150 pounds, wearing a striped Polo type shirt and jeans.

Aggravated assault/arrest

*On Aug. 17: At approximately 12:30 a.m., Diedre Lynn Weller, 40, of Ijamsville, was charged with first-degree assault, fugitive from justice, fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest and reckless driving. The arrest was a result of a police chase that started in the District of Columbia, moved to Montgomery County and finally ended at River Road and Western Avenue.

Fourth-degree sex offense

*On Aug. 13: At 9:30 p.m., and again on Aug. 14, at 3:30 a.m., a 21-year-old Chevy Chase woman was walking in the 6900 block of Strathmore Street in Chevy Chase, when she was approached by a man on a bicycle. When he made a sexually offensive remark, she ignored him and walked away. Early the next morning he approached again and grabbed the victim's breast. The victim ran home. A possible suspect has been identified and the investigation is continuing.

Damascus

Armed robbery

* Aug. 16 at 8:30 p.m.: A 19-year-old Gaithersburg man was in the area of Stevenson Drive and Scenery Drive in Germantown when three suspects approached him. The suspects displayed knives and dragged the victim behind the townhouses. They kicked the victim, removed his clothes and wallet, and took cash. The suspects then left on foot toward Scenery Drive. Armed robbery

*On Aug. 16: At approximately 4:15 p.m., The Big Screen Store, located at 11134 Rockville Pike, was robbed.

*On Aug. 16: At 6:20 a.m., a 22-year-old Silver Spring woman was walking in the 3200 block of Hewitt Avenue, when she was approached by a suspect. The suspect produced a handgun and demanded her purse. The woman gave it up and the suspect ran across the parking lot and into the wooded area. She was not injured.

The suspect was described as a black male, 25 to 30, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, wearing all black clothing and a black skullcap.

Strong arm robbery

*On Aug. 10: At 10:20 p.m., a 55-year-old Potomac woman was walking down Shady Grove Road approaching Traville Gateway Drive, when a suspect approached her from behind and pushed her to the ground. The suspect grabbed her pocket book containing cash and a cell phone. The victim sustained several cuts to her elbow and hand. The suspect continued running towards Piney Meetinghouse Road.

The suspect was described as a black male, 6 feet 3 inches tall, 220 pounds, wearing a white polo shirt and dark pants.

Indecent exposure

*On Aug. 16,; At 4 p.m., a 16-year-old Rockville girl was sitting on the front steps of a private residence located on Boiling Brook Parkway in Rockville, when a black car approached and a suspect exited. The suspect lifted his shirt and exposed himself. He got back into his car and drove away. The victim went back inside and told her mother.

The suspect was described as a white male, 50 to 60, short white hair, wearing a long navy blue T-shirt, no pants or shoes.

Commercial burglary

*Montgomery County Public Schools, Veirs Mill Elementary School, 11711 Joseph Mill Road in Silver Spring, between 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 11 and 5:45 a.m. on Aug. 12. Climbed through window; computers taken.

Residential burglary

*16500 block of Grande Vista Drive in Derwood, between 8:30 and 10:15 p.m. on Aug. 17. Entered through the basement door; cash taken.
