Arctic Bay is also known as Ikpiarjuk, 'the pocket', because of
the hills that surround it. The community is connected to the mining
town of Nanisivik by a 21 kilometre road.
This community experiences 24-hour night in the month of January.

Original metal clad building was constructed in 1974
on a concrete foundation. A new
switchgear module was installed in 1996. Office is in a separate module
storage capability. Space is extremely limited in the engine room.

One 90K horizontal installed within
a metal berm. Bulk fuel is nominated.
Environmental liability is minimal
Considerable upgrading was completed
in 1995/96. Two units were installed,
switchgear module installed, plant automation completed, and transient
Minor residual heat system was installed in 1997 to heat Corporation
Capacity of the plant is adequate for
the foreseeable future. Plant is located centrally
within the community and residual heat recovery may be feasible although
there are no
potential, large, customers in the immediate vicinity.
The building is adequate for the foreseeable
future, however any additional capacity
requirements would necessitate a building extension. The building
soundproofed and reclad to avoid future complaints.
