Pangnirtung is also known as the 'place of the bull caribou'. The community lies on the Cumberland Peninsula and is bisected by both Akshayuk and Kingnait Passes, which provide an overland route from Cumberland Sound to Davis Strait. The central part of the peninsula is dominated by the Penny Ice Cap from which many glaciers flow to the sea. more...

One 90K horizontal installed within a metal berm, installed in 1993, nominated supply.
There is minimal environmental liability.
Capital Work
Approximately $1.2 million was spent in 1995/96 to install two new units, automate the
plant, and prepare for residual heat recovery. A residual heat system was installed in 1998 to supply heat to Alookie and Attagoyuk schools. At present there are no other potential customers. The property was fenced in 1998.
Plant Forecast
Capacity of the plant is adequate for the foreseeable future.
Future Work
Any future capacity increases would require a building addition. Office building
requires minor retrofitting. Storage facilities could be improved dramatically with the acquisition of additional property beside the existing office. Negotiations are under way with regards to this land. Operations are planning on heating the office building with residual heat.
