Philander Shirley family in Ontario & Seneca County, New York

Philander Shirley was born in 1803 in New York according to the 1860 Seneca County census. He died December 6, 1862 in Waterloo, New York and is buried at Maple Grove Cemetery. He married Eve "Effie" Polhemus ROSE who was baptised April 25, 1805 in Clarkstown, Ontario County, New York.

I first find Philander & Eve in Phelps, Ontario County, New York in 1830 with two male children under the age of five.

In 1834 Philander and Eve sold land in Phelps that had been left to Eve when her father, James ROSE, died in 1822.

In a statement in 1845 in a statement by her mother, Elizabeth, Eve & Philander had left Phelps.

In 1848, Philander and Eve purchased 78 acres in Fayette, Seneca County.

Children of Philander & Eve were:

1. Philander, Jr., b. 1825 NY, d April 28, 1861 in Phelps, buried in Waterloo. Married Mary Cole. Children: George, Charles, Alonzo & William

2. Silas, b. 1829 m. Charlotte Augusta Wilkinson, 1874 living in LaPlatte, Nebraska

3. Florinda, b. 1831, Phelps, NY, married (1) Samuel Edwards & (2) George W. Baker. died 1922 in Waterloo, NY Children: Penoyer & Thomas Edwards

4. Alexander, b. 1833, Phelps, NY, married Emily Miller, civil war soldier, died 1908 in Waterloo, NY children: James, Robert & Bertha

5. John, b. 1835, married Elizabeth ? died 1913 in Waterloo, NY Children: Preston & Bud

6. Andrew Jackson b. 1835, Fayette, died 1884 in Waterloo, New York, married Nancy Ann HECKMAN
children: Charles Eugene and William Frank

7. James, b. 1840

8. Louisa, b. 1841 m. Frank Hilfiger

9. Franklin, b. 1843 married Mary Ester Loveridge, d. 1904 Waterloo, NY, civil war soldier, children: Lena May, Josephine Lida, Jessie Francis, Robert Rose, Nellie Marian, William Arthur, Effie Leona, Hazel Florence

10. Henry b. 1844, married Emma Miller, died 1911 in Waterloo, NY, civil war soldier, children: Annie May, Ella, John H., Louisa, Raymond, Harrison B., Eva May

11. Mary Jane, b. 1851, unmarried

12. Ella b. 1852, unmarried

I have descendents of Phildander's children but would mostly like to know more about Phildander's parents & siblings and where did he come from???

I know that there is a Alexander Shirley in Phelps, NY in 1820 with the right age & gender for Philander to qualify as his son but cannot firmly establish that as fact. I have traced John Shirley who was also in Ontario County at the same time but find no connection between him and Philander or Alexander.
