First you need to find a death certificate with his age listed. then a census listing of him in the place where he died. If he has been there for a while find a census that might list him as child of... some census do, some don't. He was married, find the marriage licence, that should list the parents of both bride and groom and where they were born. So now you have his name, age wife's name probably her age, possibly their parents and where they were born. Then come back and maybe someone can help you connect. Happy Hunting.

: We are trying to research a friends maternal side of the family and have no idea where to begin except we know his Dad's name. We've requested information before but no responses have been posted as of yet. The Dad's name is Joseph C. Shirley. He passed away earlier this year in St. Charles Mo. Any suggestions you have wiould be greatly appreciated as we attempt to find more about the history of this branch of the Shirleys and any relatives he may have.
