Welcome to Mentor Center(TM)

BBN's Mentor Center(TM) harnesses the power of the Internet to foster mentoring relationships and thereby expand the number of volunteers in education.

Within the dynamic environment of Mentor Center(TM) students send assignments to mentors and mentors review their work, with a teacher overseeing the exchanges.

Mentor Center(TM) requires minimal technology and is easy to use. Using their own browser and email programs, participants work from their own Internet-connected computers.

To see how it works, drop in on a 5th grade English class in Cambridge, Mass. Follow the progress of a student, Danny, as he completes an assignment, and of Danny's mentor, Melanie, as she responds to his work. Then see how Danny's teacher creates assignments, matches students and mentors, and tracks the progress of the whole class. Click "Take the Tour" in the navigation box to the left.

After the tour, to explore Mentor Center(TM) further click "Try It Out." You will receive a temporary, fully functional Mentor Center(TM) account. You will be able to send work as a student and review it as a mentor.
