Bishop Auckland 4 : Prescot Cables 0

14 January, 2004

Report from John Cowey - 14 January, 2004

Team:  Riches, Rowe, Mason, Foster, West,  Hope, Moore, Robson (Ross 84mins), Shields (Manson 79mins), Salvin (Shingleton 89mins), Irvine

Bishops produced their third great performance in a row with a comfortable and convincing win against a team who they failed to beat twice in October.  With injuries to both Maddison and Shingleton, debutant Gary Shields from Chester le Street and Stephen Salvin played up front.

From the opening minutes Bishops looked dangerous with both Moore and Irvine putting in good crosses in the opening minutes.  Irvine also hit a good shot across the 'keeper which he did well to hold.  The opening goal came on 20 minutes when Salvin collected a ball from the left and spun to hit a low shot from 18 yards which found the bottom corner with the 'keeper wrong footed.

The two blues continued to dominate play but were unable to add to the lead in the first half.

Prescot's first real chance came on the hour mark when Riches saved a one-on-one, but Bishops were soon coasting as Shields beat the off-side trap and advanced to slot the ball home past the Prescot 'keeper on 66 minutes.

Salvin hit his second of the game on 81 minutes when he poked a lobbed pass under the advancing 'keeper.  The fourth came soon after when Moore tormented the home defenders enough to draw a clear foul, and Irvine struck the penalty home.

Once again the team left the field to the applause of the Bishops fans with a home Quarter Final against Burscough to look forward to in ten days time.
