Mai 26 Chwilio am rhewgell/oergell newydd. Roedd mae 'r rhewgell 'ma yn tipyn toredig. Anwybydden ni y oergell americanaidd - oergell enfawr. Dw i eisiau cadw bywyd nid byw yn y oergell!

Mai 25 Ro'n i'n mynd adref trwy Castell y Bere ac Y Canolfan Dechnoleg Amgen. Roedd y Canolfan yn diddorol iawn - llawer o arddangosion. Roedd y bwywd yn dda iawn hefyd.

Dw i'n hoffi y trên o maes parcio i fyny 'r canolfan. mae trên yn rhedeg ar dŵr. Mae 'r trên uchaf yn llwythio gyda dŵr. Mae 'r trên yn drymach na y trên ar waelod. Mae 'r tren yn tynnu y trên ar waelod i fyny. Pyrd mae trên yn cyrraed ar waelod, mae dŵr yn gwagio. Mae e'n clyfar iawn iawn.

Roedd Mark yn mynd fy nghartref a ni. Cysges i llawer - dim defaid o'r diwedd!

We went homewards via Castell y Bere and The Alternative Technology Centre. The Centre was very interesting - lots of exhibits. The food was very good too.

I like the train from the car park up to the centre. The train runs on water. The upper train is loaded with water. The train now weighs more than the train below. The tran pulls the train at the bottom, When the train arrives at the bottom the water is emptied. Its very very clever.

Mark took us home. I slept a lot - no sheep at last.

The sheep were being noisy at 6 o clock in the moroning. I'd like a shotgun 8). Nothing but "merrrrr merrrrr".

We went to Beddgelert, Betws y Cored and Ty Mawr (the bracketed bit just doesn't work translated sorry) - the whole time in Welsh. The day was hard but we learned lots of history and lots of words.

The people who modify computer cases are annoying me once again. They are daft. One of them said that he'd bought a fan manager and now his fans were quiet. When I asked him "Why didn't you remove one of them" he said "You don't understand". I do understand: Blue LED on their car, blue LED on their computer, a stereo that is a weapon of mass destruction in their car...

To tell the truth, I'm annoyed because the silent fans all come with LEDs or cold cathodes. They have no sane fans and the new PSU costs less with LEDs

Mai 18 Mae hen ffliw arna i. Sa i'n hapus. Mae Telsa yn rhyfela gyda fideo o hyd. Dw i'n meddwl bod y fideo yn casau Telsa. (Dw i'n meddwl bod technoleg yn casau Telsa eto - Un tro roedden ni ar y tren. Does dim goleuadau ar y tren. Pryd mae hi'n mynd allan roedd y goleuadau troi ymlaen. Dyma ddim yn unigryw!)

I have the flu. I'm not happy. Telsa is at war with the video as always. I think that the video hates Telsa (I think that technology hates Telsa as well - One time we were on the train. There were no lights on the train. When telsa got out the lights turned on. This is not unusual!)

I have the flu. I slept all day. I am not happy. I was planning to make the VIA sound driver play three oggs out of the 6 channels.

Mai 16 Roedd y awyren yn hwyr. Doedd ddim ILS da maes awr Abertawe. Roedden ni yn hedfan yn cylch pam roedden ni gobeithio codai y cymylau.

The flight was late. There is no ILS at Swansea Airport. We had to fly in circles while we hoped the clouds would rise.

Mai 15 Y bore, AM, roeddwn i eisau cysgu! Aeth Dave a fi yn maes awr Abertawe. Wedyn hedfannon ni i maes awr Llundain Dinas. Mae e'n hyfryd. Aethon ni ar y bws i Canary Wharf (tair funud).

Ces i ginio gyda ein ffrind ni "Open Forum Europe". 'sdim cliw. Doedd nhw'n ddim deall y problem breinlennau. Roedden nhw'n dweud eu fod nhw 'n dweud i eu aelodau nhw. Fe fyddan nhw eisau siarad hynny!

Wedyn, aeth Dave a fi yn y cyfarfod DTI ynglŷn â polisi gôd agored.

The morning, AM, I need to sleep! Went with Dave to Swansea Airport. After that we flew to London City. Its nice. We got the bus to Canary Wharf (3 minutes).

Had dinner with our friends "Open Forum Europe". They have no clue. They don't understand the patents problem. They say that they speak for their members. Their members should speak themsevles.

Afterwards, Dave and I went to the DTI meeting about the policy for open source.

Telsa has killed the video gain. I don't understand how she breaks it. (I don't understand how she breaks every program after fifteen years).

I can't imagine the mess if she was to visit Google. 6000 computers would break. You wouldn't believe in "fault tolerant" if you knew Telsa 8)

Hoffa un rhywun yn gwneud RPM i Mandrake, dpkg i Debian ?

Published more Welsh RPMs for Red Hat 9. The translations were done by Chris, Rhys, Dafydd and other people (not me). Keep at it!

I got up late because I was watching the television all night.

Telsa is cross. The library has lent the book in reserve for her to someone else.

Mai 01 Llongyfarchiadau ar y prosiect FreeBSD - roedden nhw 'n cyhoeddi y gyrrwr Promise SATA cyntaf. Gobeithio fe fydda i wedi cyhoeddi gyrrwr Linux yr wythnos nesaf. Mae gyrrwr FreeBSD helpu i yn fawr achos ei fod e ddangos i y Promise SATA yn debig i y Promise 202xx.

Ysgrifenes i fwy o cefnogaeth EDP2. Mae EDP2 yn ddiddorol - gorchmyn ATA/IDE dros ethernet. Efallai fy mod i dylwyn wedi ei gorffen cyn ades i gefnogaeth amllwybr (beth yw "multipath" ?).

Mae hi'n dydd pleidleisio. Mae hi'n pryd i edrych ar y teledu ar hyd y nos.

Congratulations to the FreeBSD project - they have release the first Promise SATA driver. Hopefully i will have released a Linux driver next week. The FreeBSD driver helps a lot because it shows the Promise SATA is similar to the Promise 202xx.

I wrote more of the EDP2 support. EDP2 is interesting - ATA/IDE commands over ethernet. Probably I should have finished before I added the multipath support.

It's election day. It's time to watch the television through the night.

Worked on the EDP2 driver. Finished the HPT 372 IDE. It needs more testing yet. Duncan Lawrie (at Sun) sent me more changes. They fix the Segate Barracuda IV with Serverworks CSB5 and HPT cable detection.

Ebrill 29 Ro'n i'n cynnwys y ACPI Intel newydd yn 2.4.21-ac3. Mae ACPI newydd yn well nawr. Mae e'n lladd IBM x440 er hynny ond mae e'n gweithio am y rhan fwyaf o'r peiriannau.

Peries i y larwm tân i swnio. Cafodd y padell ffrïo ei gortwymo. Llwcus does dim bwydydd yn llosgi.

I have merge the new Intel ACPI into 2.4.21-ac3. The new ACPI is better now. It kills IBM x440 at the moment but it works on lots more machines

I caused the fire alarm to go off. The frying pan overheated. Luckily there was no food to burn.

Mae syniad yn eich bod chi cael rhif ar y tudalen we a fe fyddwch chi SMS y rhif 'na (gyda rhyw testyn wrth y tudalen). Fe fydd y system SMS yn cod tal oddi wrthoch chi wedyn fy fydd e'n anfon neges atoch chi. Fe fydd y neges yn datgloi y safle we am y dydd.

Nawr does neb yn codi patent fe! Roedd e'n cyhoeddi 'ma cyntaf.

The first lessons for two weeks. I have forgotten lots (like the homework ;)). It was the LUG in the evening. I met Sits in Justins car. Spoke about micropyaments on the web using SMS. The idea is that you have a number on the web page and you will send an SMS to that number (with some text from the page). The SMS system will charge you and after that it will send a message to you. The message will unlock the web site for the day.

Now nobody can patent it! It was pulished here first.

Translation day two. Gareth and Chris came to the house and did lots of translating. Nautilis is started at last. The "throbber" was the first translation of course. Conrad cooked before he went home.

The ADSL is working now but I need to buy more ethernet. The 'Dabs Value' switch is not working. Some value!

Linux 2.5.64-ac3 is out. I have merge the new IDE into 2.5.64. The hard disk hasn't forgotten anything so far.

Someone has cleaned up the ixj.c driver. ixj.c is a driver from hell, so I'm very happy to hear it.

I spent the day searching for problems in the IDE layer. IDE SCSI is dying on SMP machines. I discovered that I had forgotten the scsi reset method takes the io_request lock.

We went shopping with Justin and Sharon. MFI has stopped stocking the good shelving. Telsa bought a couple of pine benches. Learned how to type ŵ and ŷ on the keyboard. XFree86 has a 'Multi' button (shift-algr) so you type 'Multi' then '^@ then 'y' and it writes ŷ.

2.4.21-pre4-ac6 is out at last.

Linux 2.4.21-pre4-ac5 is out. The AMD IDE driver doesn't oops on boot - the table of capabalities was wrong. Typhoon is a new driver for the 3c990 without crypto. Crypto will follow but not in 2.4

Linux 2.4.21-pre4-ac6 is ready. It fixes most of the crashes with Flightgear. I flew to Rhosilli with no problems. Rhosilli looks great. Wyrms Head looks flat and green however.

I'll release 2.4.21-re4-ac6 tomorrow. I need to find something to do when England squash Wales 8(. I found a welsh wordlist in aspell-cy. I'll look at writing a program to learn vocabulary over the weekend as well.

February 10th Still rebuilding the exploded raid array. The promise card apparently got itself very confused when the system crashed. I've now found the trigger for the crash (the box has issues with the BusLogic card). After about 20 hours the raid card finally got itself in order.

February 9th Rewiring chunks of the machine room so that I can run the beta on all the test machines at once.

Still trying to sort out getting the racks from the south east back to Wales. Dick pointed out some interesting geometrical considerations too. 800x800 rack does not go through normal sized doors.

My promise RAID array, holding the 2.2 kernel tree I'd been fixing all the ethernet drives in decided to commit suicide. I am not pleased. Tomorrow it will be getting a re-education and if neccessary a screwdriver will be used to jog its memory.

February 8th Finally bought a new pair of boots. The previous ones were at the extremely comfortable stage, which alas is the one prior to the 'two bits of leather flapping around your feet' stage. While shoes with holes in can be a help (when you step in a puddle the water drains back out), they are not too good for Swansea winters, because it assumes there is a place which is not occupied by a puddle.

February 7th IDE is slowly coming together. There are still a lot of problems and there are still horrors in the registration and allocation code that I suspect nobody sane understands and nobody can understand without going mad.

The saga of shared IRQ IDE continues to get better. Fortunately Ben made the mistake of volunteering to do the proper fixes for the posting stuff.

February 6th Linux 2.5.x isnt working very well here so I've postponed trying to sort out the IDE forward (back ;)) port to 2.5 for now. Carried on chasing down bugs in 2.4. Stopped for a while to break other bits of the beta.

February 5th Another class and another set of new ways to say yes and no. A language that has no yes or no but uses "I do" "I will" and the like seems ok until you realise that also means "I may", "I could", "I have", "I would like" and so on , followed by "He would", "She would, "They will".. you get the picture. There are an awful lot of ways you might answer a yes question in Welsh and most of them are wrong.

Discovered Welsh has some irregular adjectives too (not that English is any less guilty - 'gooder' and 'goodest' tend to lose you marks in exams)

February 4th More IDE hackery, more IDE bugs. Someone discovered that reading /proc/ide/*/identify crashes systems. This wouldn't be too bad except that HP ships tools some people use which do exactly this just after boot. Some people using 2.4.21pre3-ac or the RH beta consider this a bug for some reason.

February 3rd Still no snow, for which I suspect the rest of the UK is somewhat greatful given how much they got without any landing here. Welsh lessons continue as do my complete inability to get the pronouns right. Still trying to work out how come I can remember the Welsh for "time machine" but not useful things like "chair".

On the Linux front I've been trying to torture test the Red Hat installer by feeding it more and more bizarre hardware combinations. So far the beta installer is doing remarkably well. It has survived strange C&T video, ancient SiS cards and even the dread Cyrix MediaGX.

LUG meeting in the evening. Looks like there will be a South Wales installfest coming up sometime. Watch this space.

February 2nd Rearranged the machine room so that the rack stuff is actually mounted on racking (well cheap MFI stuff about the right size). I have some 42U racks I sort of own but owing to a few shipping issues they are still lurking in the south east somewhere. Your average parcel company doesn't ship 42U racks alas.

I've been trying to get the parisc box back up and happy so that I can look at merging the remaining 2.4 parisc differences into the -ac tree. As the parisc hardware has an upward growing stack some of this is to say the least 'interesting' in terms of scope for introducing new bugs.

The install proved painful. The early CD I had installed a setup where Debian updated the libc to one that needed a newer kernel than the installed kernel. The latest CD snapshot crashed in mke2fs, but after much suffering I discovered the previous installer snapshot worked a treat (as I gather does the full 650Mb Debian install image).

The base stuff works very well on the parisc box, although mozilla is terminally defunct and core chunks of gnome simply don't work. I've yet to try KDE on it.

February 1st Nat Semi gave me a pile of documentation and code for the older Cyrix MediaGX hardware. I'm still debugging some of the video stuff using this but finally got around to writing a driver to automatically configure the audio on the older boxes - mostly because I'm sick of having to look in the BIOS for the audio settings. Since it uses SMM to emulate a soundblaster the code isn't too hard. The driver finds the PCI device and decodes magic information to get the base address of the fake soundblaster then install the driver. Still a couple of bugs if it fails to install.
