So, you wanna beat the heathen (your enemies here) and spread the glory of (your cause here). Well, you'll never pull it off parking next to the nailgun, yer gonna need strategy. So, without further ado, here's a few pointers.

CAVEAT!! Some of this information is outdated. Here out in the boonies of Upstate New York, I have neither the fast computers or fast networks available in the technological mecca that is Richmond.
CAVEAT:you very well might already know all this stuff; it's still at the elementary level.
If you have any suggests, feel free to e-mail me.

TACTICS

Well, the previous section explained it rather well. On offense, Let the campers, mages, etc. carpet-bomb the altar, while fighters and wasteland warriors charge in and keep the opposition busy. Ninjas and monks can swoop in and out, blasting and decoying and generally confusing the hell out of the opposition. Quake soldiers and androids can do either, reinforcing where necessary. All this, of course, assumes a degree of organization that's hard to find in a firefight, but it's something to work towards.

ALIASES YOU NEED

A mission will run much smoother if you can relay certain messages quickly. These are the ones I've found useful; you should be able to copy/paste this into a config file. The most important one of these is messagemode2, 'teamtalk'. This will let you send a message to only members of your team, opponents can't see it. All the "say_teams" also work under this rule. In case it's not obvious, pressing the bound key activates the command in quotes; pushing 'N' broadcasts "NUK!! CLEAR!!" on your team's channel.
bind y "messagemode2"
bind n "say_team NUK!!! CLEAR!!!"
bind r "say_team NEED HELP AT ALTAR!!"
bind m "say_team MY nuk, friendly"
bind b "say (YOUR BATTLECRY HERE)"
bind e "say_team INCOMING ENEMY!!"

STUPID .CFG TRICKS

I've modified Stuart MacDougall's grappling-hook trick to work for FVF. For all of the below, you'll need to put this in a separate .CFG file, say 'foovuf.cfg' in your ID1 directory, than type 'exec foovuf.cfg' at the console:
alias gimp1 "impulse 1; alias gweap "impulse 1""
alias gimp2 "impulse 2; alias gweap "impulse 2""
alias gimp3 "impulse 3; alias gweap "impulse 3""
alias gimp4 "impulse 4; alias gweap "impulse 4""
alias gimp5 "impulse 5; alias gweap "impulse 5""
alias gimp6 "impulse 6; alias gweap "impulse 6""
alias gimp7 "impulse 7; alias gweap "impulse 7""
alias gimp8 "impulse 8; alias gweap "impulse 8""
bind 1 gimp1
bind 2 gimp2
bind 3 gimp3
bind 4 gimp4
bind r gimp5
bind 6 gimp6
bind 7 gimp7
bind 8 gimp8
Don't ask what it does if ya can't figure out yourself. Anyways, that bundle of code allows you to do fun stuff like this (if you don't like the keys I've selected, then just switch the key in quotes in the BIND " " part to the key of your choice):
