AAN Testifies on Prescription Drug Formularies
On behalf of the AAN, member John Gates, MD, of Minnesota presented testimony in a public hearing regarding drug formularies. The first draft of the structure to provide prescription drug coverage to Medicare beneficiaries is, in Gates' words, "Completely unacceptable. The plan fails to provide adequate drug coverage for a number of neurological conditions, including multiple sclerosis and epilepsy.” Learn more.

Neurology Introduces Page for Residents/Fellows
The Resident and Fellow Page has been introduced in Neurology as a primarily online feature to serve neurology trainees. This section centralizes information that is of particular interest to residents and fellows and supports the development of lifelong learning skills. Upcoming features include a video library of classic and atypical neurological findings.
The editorial team, which includes residents and fellows from around the country, invites submissions of articles as well as short video clips. Submission instructions can be found here.

October 5, 2004, is the deadline for advance registration discounts for the 2004 Fall Conference which will take place November 5th through 7th, 2004, at the Grand Hyatt New York. ABPN Vascular Neurology Subspecialty Examination Application Deadline Extended
The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) has extended the late deadline for receipt of applications for the May 9 – 13, 2005, vascular neurology subspecialty examination. The late deadline date of September 1, 2004, has been changed to November 1, 2004. Applications are available for download on the ABPN Website at www.abpn.com. A late fee will be required. Questions should be directed to the ABPN Credentials Department at (847) 374-4209.
Latest PIAA Neurology Claims Report
According to a recent report by the Physician Insurers Association of America (PIAA) with the assistance of the AAN, neurologists, as a medical specialty group, tend to have the highest average and median payment amount per claim. However, 80 percent of the claims involving neurologists are closed without payment or withdrawn.
