John Wayne

Hollywood legend John Wayne was born Marion Morrison in Winterset on May 26, 1907. Guided tours of his Birthplace home are available from 10:00am to 4:30pm daily except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's day.

The official website, http://www.johnwaynebirthplace.org was recently expanded, and their wide selection of John Wayne-related items are now available for purchase at their site. Sales of these products help support the John Wayne Birthplace Society, a non-profit group which exists to preserve and expand the Birthplace of Winterset’s most famous resident.

A ceremony for the Commemorative Issue of the new John Wayne postage stamp will be held at the Birthplace of John Wayne on Saturday, October 9th at 2:00 p.m. during the 2004 Madison County Covered Bridge Festival. John Wayne’s daughter Melinda will also be on hand for the ceremony.
