A cantor's 10 Days of Awe
Religion reporter Cathleen Falsani followed Hazzan Alberto Mizrahi, chief cantor at Chicago's Anshe Emet Synagogue, through the Jewish High Holy Days beginning with Rosh Hashana on Sept. 16 and ending with Yom Kippur on Sept. 25. For cantors such as Mizrahi, the 10-day period between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, known as the Days of Awe, is the busiest of the Jewish year.
