Step 1:
Print out the free
pattern. (Straight edge of Back Heel piece should measure about 6
3/8" across.)
If you are
using an non-raveling fabric such as micro-fleece, cut 4 Uppers, 2 Soles,
and 2 Back Heel pieces.
* If you are using a
fabric that will unravel, such as a woven, cut 4 Uppers, 2 or 4 Soles, and
4 Back Heel pieces. |
|
Step 2:
Turn under
the straight edge of the Back Heel piece and stitch to form a 1/4"
casing. Using a tiny safety pin or bodkin, thread the elastic
through the casing. Stitch across the ends to secure them.
Trim off excess corners. *
For wovens, place two Back Heel pieces right sides together. Stitch
a 1/4" seam across the straight edge. Turn so that the right
sides are out. Top stitch 1/4" from the straight edge to form a
casing. Thread the elastic through the casing, secure the ends. |
|
Step 3:
Pin
the Back Heel piece to one Upper, right sides together, elasticized edges
toward the center. Place the second Upper piece on top of the Back
Heel piece, right side down. |
|
Step 4:
Stitch
across the straight edge (1/4" seam allowance). Turn to the
right sides. |
|
Step 5:
Mark
the center front and back on the Upper and the Sole pieces. Place
right sides together, matching center markings. Pin. |
|
Step 6:
Stitch
all around the edge with a zigzag stitch. Let the right side of the
zigzag go off the edge to give a slight rolled hem effect. This
makes a minimal seam allowance that will be more comfortable for the baby
and also a cleaner edge.
Turn the footies to the
right side.
