Music Review Guidelines
1. You can review any format you'd like, single, EP, album, import, domestic, mp3, tape-only releases, etc. If the release is an obscure one, provide hyperlinks or contact information, so that someone reading the review can actually buy/obtain the music.
2. Reviews should be 250-500 words long. Make sure you remember to spellcheck your submission.
3. Try not to review anything over a month old. If it is, it had better be either a reissue, or really damn good. And even if it is really damn good, don't review anything over eight weeks old.
4. This is pretty obvious, but it needs to be said: Don't review an album by your band, your friend's band or anyone you know's band. This is a conflict of interest, and if I find out you're somehow connected to a band, I'll be very sad.
5. Try to write reviews a mainstream audience can identify with. No, you don't have to review Hanson, or the latest Madonna single. But if you're reviewing an obscure band, don't drop names of other obscure bands as reference points. And if you use a term like "space rock" or "trance," define it within the context of the review.
6. Use hyperlinks. We're a webzine. Hyperlinks give our reviewers the flexibility to say, "This song features a weird, off-key theremin." Hyperlinks work great when you don't feel like taking a paragraph to explain what a theremin is.
7. Also, if you want, feel free to throw in the occasional humorous or clever hyperlink.
8. Avoid using first person. Keep the focus on the music, not on you.
9. If you can provide sleeve scans of 72 dpi, 150 pixels wide by 150 pixels tall in jpeg format, we would be really grateful.
10. That's about it. Any questions, e-mail me.
