CSLab's aim was to make Ericsson's software activities as efficient as possible through the purposeful exploitation of modern technology.

CSLab worked mostly with prototyping in new directions in cooperation with application development and with academic research.

CSLab's best known achievement was the development of the concurrent functional programming language Erlang.

CSLab was formally established on March 1, 1984, and closed down on June 30, 2002.
