Some fresh air blew into the place. - offered by Tom Van Dusen, Ontario Farmer newspaper

Why talk about him again? Because an amazing thing happened when Manley participated in the national agricultural debate held in an auditorium at the University of Ottawa: Some fresh air blew into the place. (...) An organic agriculture guru based at Berwick, Manley has more of a chance than most representatives of his party to be the first from the Greens to be elected to the House of Commons. In fact, a candidate of his calibre deserves to be in the House no matter what party he represents. In particular, he'd be an innovative voice for agriculture.

Tom Van Dusen, Ontario Farmer newspaper, June 15th, 2004

Tom manley is a constructive insightfull candidate for the green party. - offered by The Ottawa Citizen

Tom Manley is a constructive insightfull candidate for the Green Party who would no doubt shake things up in Parliament with new approaches to old problems.

Tom has the ability to build bridges, both inside and outside of the party. - offered by Sven Biggs

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Tom Manley, candidate for the leadership of the Green Party of Canada. I was impressed with both his enthusiasm and vision for the future of our party. I feel the Tom will bring the style of leadership to the party that will allow us to turn our short term gains into a sustainable presence in Canadian politics.

Tom has the ability to build bridges, both inside and outside of the party and brings with him a considerable background in management that will help the party take full advantage of its ongoing growth. Based on these merits I have decided to give my wholehearted endorsement to Tom!

Tom will help develop a truly eco-centric, bioregional and inclusive democratic structure. - offered by Stuart Hertzog

I think Tom Manley will make an excellent leader of the Green Party of Canada at this time. I am impressed with the effort he is making to contact Greens across Canada, with his intellectual honesty, and with his willingness to consider new ideas and learn from others. His reasonable approach and openness to feedback from concerned people will provide a welcome base for healing the existing rifts in the Green party and help develop a truly eco-centric, bioregional and inclusive democratic structure for the future political expression of Green ideas in Canada.

Tom manley knows that the green party is bigger than any one person’s vision of it. - offered by Rob Newman

Tom Manley knows that the Green Party is bigger than any one person’s vision of it. He is a person who will facilitate the conversations we need to have among ourselves and with the rest of Canada over the next two years. He believes in the capacity of this organization and will work to empower each member to be the cause of change in their riding, their province and their country. This election is not an evaluation of the past two years; it is an opportunity to have a discussion about where we want to go next and how we want to get there. Tom Manley will listen to what we say and will help us realize whatever vision we come to collectively.

Rob Newman

Former Executive Assistant to the Leader

Tom manley has already established himself as a leader in the green party. - offered by Peter Elgie

I am glad Tom is running for leader and happily endorse his campaign.

Tom Manley has already established himself as a leader in the Green Party. He is thoughtful, articulate and capable and I would feel confident about voting for him for leader of our party.

Peter Elgie, Deputy leader - Green Party of Ontario, many times candidate.

Tom illuminated the vision of organic, community based, food security, and did so eloquently in both official languages. - offered by Mike Nickerson

I believe that Tom Manley would make an excellent leader for the Green Party of Canada. For years he has cooperated with the Sustainability Project, carrying educational materials to conferences and community events. Tom is committed to working with the Party to bring Canadians up to speed on the challenges we face and the goal the Party holds for meeting those challenges.

http://www.SustainWellBeing.net/GreenParty/challenge-and-goal.html

Tom impressed the agricultural community recently, when he took on the Minister of Agriculture and other agricultural critics during the Federal Election Agriculture Debate. While the others spouted the rhetoric of global, competitive, agribusiness, Tom illuminated the vision of organic, community based, food security, and did so eloquently in both official languages.

In addition to living and talking green, Tom resides close to Ottawa, an asset for working with a shadow cabinet and responding to events as the new government continues to steer Canada down the mistaken road of globalized economics.

I encourage you to support Tom Manley's bid for the leadership of the Green Party of Canada.

Yours, Mike Nickerson

Tom demonstrated the ability to lead by example and build consensus. - offered by Michael Pilling

Tom, thanks for your past and future contributions to the Green Party. It was a great pleasure to work with you in two back to back elections. I very much respect your approach and the contribution you are making to our discussion of how the Green Party should evolve. In working on the platform Committee, you demonstrated the ability to lead by example and build consensus in the best tradition of Green Party politics.

Michael Pilling, GPC platform coordinator.

Tom has the perfect balance of business savvy and foresight. - offered by Melanie Ransom

Tom has the perfect balance of business savvy and foresight - the kind of Leader Canada really needs right now. He's an effective speaker, he's pro-active, perfectly bilingual...I just can't find any fault with him!

Melanie Ransom, candidate for renewal - GPC Admin Chair, past candidate GPO.

Tom is that fresh air our party needs as gpc leader. - offered by Marc Loiselle

I concur fully with Tom Van Dusen's article and endorsement of Tom Manley following the national agriculture debate. Interesting note that the CBC in Saskatchewan focused more on what Tom said in the debate than the others; a testament to his knowledge and ability to deliver convincingly. Being a very articulate, positive, fluently bilingual, astute businessman and defender, practitioner and promoter of Green Party principles and policy, Tom is that fresh air our party needs as GPC leader.

Marc Loiselle - Prince Albert candidate (987 votes - 3.4%...triple the 2000 support) 20th year of certified organic farming;

Sticking to the grassroots part of the party as well as staying positive. - offered by Julie-Ann Stodolny

Because of your willingness to help other candidates during your own very busy campaign, because of your interest in helping the party as a whole, and because of your positive message/bio in the write-ups about the leadership, I fully support your leadership run. You are the only one who seems to be sticking to the grassroots part of the party as well as staying positive about the party, and I think that's what we need.

Julie-Ann Stodolny, Green Party Candidate, Elgin-Middlesex-London

I support you as the (very possibly) new leader! - offered by Janine Gibson

I support you as the (very possibly) new leader! My 3.5 % in Provencher (Manitoba) was seen as an accomplishment!

Janine Gibson, GPC candidate, Provencher Manitoba.

I think tom is the right leader to take the green party of canada forward. - offered by Jane Sterk

As a candidate in the recent federal election, I was disturbed when I realized that the party had adopted an election strategy that was not public and one I saw to be incongruent with Green principles and, indeed, typical of traditional political parties. This strategy could be called a "beachhead strategy" or the "star candidate strategy".

Tom Manley speaks eloquently to the need for the Green Party to ensure all of our strategies, growth and success are consistent with and measured against Green principles. At the same time, he has a vision for how we can become a mature, credible force on the federal political scene. I think he is the right leader to take the Green Party of Canada forward.

Jane Sterk, Ph.D.

Tom has the skills to see that the green party remains a grassroots party. - offered by Graham Beck

While I am new to the Green Party, I have worked with Tom Manley in organic food, in non-profit and business for the last seven years. I have always respected Tom for his personal integrity. He seems equally comfortable loading bags of grain products as he does presenting the Governor General at a formal Organic Fundraiser. He is a receptive listener, good adviser and articulate speaker. I believe Tom as leader, would prove to be a very effective facilitator in bringing together the diverse views that are now found within the Green Party - in both official languages.

Clearly this past election was a big success for the Green Party but fast growth can also be hazardous. Tom has the skills to see that the Green Party continues to remain a grassroots party, at the same time as it develops it's capacity and depth.

Graham Beck founder of Little Stream Bakery, Perth Ontario.

Tom would make an excellent gpc leader. - offered by Frank de Jong

Tom Manley has burst onto the Green Party scene over the last 3 years as a top vote earner provincially and federally, as a highly credible candidate and issue advocate, and as a energetic organizer. Tom is a highly articulate communicator of Green Party principles and policy, speaks fluent French and English, and would make an excellent GPC leader.

Frank de Jong, Leader - Green Party of Ontario; Interim Chair - Green Party of Canada.

I was very impressed by tom's vision of a grassroots movement. - offered by Frank Marchetti

I have had the pleasure recently to meet and talk to Tom at length about the future of the Green Party. I was very impressed by Tom's vision of a grassroots movement from within the party to enable it in achieving lasting success. Tom's sincerity is evident when he speaks and he has a great ability to articulate his views. Tom is a great asset to the Green Party and he deserves to play a major role in its future.

Keep up the great work.

Sincerely,

Frank Marchetti, Membership Secretary, Guelph EDA & CA. Recent GPC candidate.

We need a leader who can speak confidently on policy, speaks fluent french, and embodies the thoughtful ideals we stand for. - offered by Evan Hughes

Our party has grown to the point where it's becoming a plausible alternative to the other mainstream parties. In order to make the jump from being an alternative party, to becoming a viable option, we need a leader who can speak confidently on policy, speaks fluent french, and embodies the thoughtful ideals we stand for. Tom does all of these things admirably.

Evan Hughes, Ottawa-Center EDA.

Tom has a real grasp and sense of the democratic future of this party, - offered by Ernst von Bezold

Tom has a real grasp and sense of the democratic future of this party. The Green Party is a political leadership resource of the Green movement and of the country. Tom brings fresh energy to local membership initiatives in order to strengthen and develop the Green roots of the national electoral recognition we have been granted by Candians.

Tom carries the inner commitment necessary to inspire us to focus on local, transformational Green activity whose practical vision aims beyond the next election while working intensively to achieve progressive electoral victories.

The type of balanced, collaborative leader the party requires. - offered by Eric Walton

Tom has greatly impressed me with his thoughtful and organized approach to organizational issues and his strength in policy development. I believe he is exactly the type of balanced, collaborative leader the GPC requires at this important and exciting transition point in its evolution. 'Il a mon support total.'

The green party is entering a new phase where new skills are needed. - offered by David Chernushenko

"The Green Party is entering a new phase where new skills are needed. Tom Manley has the skills we need to develop a sustainable structure, build our capacity nationally and in all regions, bring the best out of Council and members - in both languages, and encourage grassroots organizing and a strong presence on the ground in every riding."

David Chernushenko, Ottawa Centre candidate (4707 votes running against Ed Broadbent)

Tom manley is one of the most honest public figures and politicians i have ever met. - offered by Dan Biocchi

I'm a recent member of the Green party, however, I have been involved in the political environment for over twenty years. I have worked in the House of Commons as the EA to the Employment and Immigration Critic for the NDP and have been involved in several activist environments and non-profit organizations. I founded the Ottawa chapter of Fair Vote Canada.

I can say without hesitation that Tom Manley is one of the most honest public figures and politicians I have ever met. He is without a doubt an exceptional facilitator and is more likely to move an issue or logistical process forward without actually commanding anyone to do so... he can because he enables people to do so. Tom is not an antagonizer nor does he bend to antagonizers. At the end of August we will decide whether we want substance over image, trust over intimidation, and communication over information. I am a Tom supporter and I fully endorse his candidacy because I endorse the Green Party.

Dan Biocchi

Tom did better than okay, he was literally awesome. - offered by Anonymous observer

I attended this debate on Tuesday (yesterday), at Ottawa U. It wasn't without its drama, mainly due to some anger that the public could not ask questions, for the format was set to involve only panel questions from three members of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA). Here's my very simple break down, with minimal, yet uncontrolable bias.

Green Party: Tom Manley (Agricultural Advocate, from Berwick ON)

He greeted everybody as they entered and gave out the Green Platform, and I was almost nervous for him, hoping he would do okay. Well, he did better than okay, he was literally awesome I thought. He basically spoke perfectly concisely and to the point, and painted an ideal picture of how agriculture should be, in harmony with nature, etc. He even spoke perfect French in answering the French question. I thought he was a robot (a la Al Gore).

He supports reforming the system totally, including markets so as to provide farmers with a fair share of the consumer food dollar, provide easier access to local markets, halt the spread of GM foods and promote organics, anti- pesticides, and pro- sustainable food production. He got a loud cheer after every time he spoke, including by outspoken farmers ("back off our land feds"). Although the Greens aren't going to get in even one MP, their presence is ever increasing, as is the necessity to support them.

My conclusion is that the only party that I don't even seem to find one beef with (pun intended) is the Green Party, so I'm going Green, but hoping Broadbent wins my riding.
