Sits towards the top of the table and despite being old and inefficient its output has more than tripled since 2000 and so have its carbon dioxide emissions. It's hoping to make money and reduce emissions by burning biomass (fuel made from plants) but this should only be a temporary reprieve from tightening environmental controls.

Extinction forecast
At the moment new owners Powergen seem to want to keep this dinosaur running but if they are serious about wanting to be the greenest generating company having this dinosaur on their books is not a good idea. They should close it this decade.

Related species
Owned by Powergen, who also own Kingsnorth and Ratcliffe.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from these stations will be controlled from 2005 but just how strict those controls will be depends on the Government and you.

Needless to say, the companies that own them will be fighting any control every step of the way.

Write to your MP asking them to demand that the Secretary of State for the Environment introduces tough controls on these monsters.
