Comedy Clichés

March 12, 2004

If you're a budding TV comedy writer, you could certainly learn a lot from the Television Tropes, Idioms, and Devices catalogue.

It gives useful names to all of those fun clichés that happen in TV shows. Like the 'young character goes away for a holiday and returns all grown up' thing that happened to Vicky in Eastenders.

There's even a plot type that's been christened the Fawlty Towers.

I think my favourite, though, is 'Trapped by Mountain Lions' - really familiar to anyone who watched 24.
