2000 Melbourne Cup

Next Tuesday 7 November marks the running of the 140th Melbourne Cup – "the race that stops the nation".

Approximately 80% of the Australian adult population are expected to place a bet on the outcome of the race, with betting through TAB Limited (NSW) alone expected to reach $40 million on the Cup and over $60 million on the entire day’s racing.

To make betting on the Cup easy for "once a year" punters, TAB will again be making available designated Melbourne Cup Tickets which require only horse numbers and the bet amount to be marked. Uniformed Customer Service Representatives will also be on hand in most outlets to help customers get their bets on.

For those wanting an easy 3-horse bet, the "Cup Combo" is the way to go. For a $12 outlay the "Cup Combo" allows the customer to select three (3) horses on a single ticket, providing the following bets:

• $1 Win and $1 Place on each horse, and

• $1 Box Trifecta (cost $6) on that combination

TAB Limited’s 1500 outlets will be accepting bets on the Cup from this Sunday.

As usual, TAB Agencies will be open late on Monday evening and will re-open at 7:30 am on Cup Day with the big race scheduled to start at 3:20 pm.

For those customers wanting to avoid the inevitable Cup Day queues, Internet Betting will be an alternative again this year, with TAB making it easier than ever to open a betting account on-line. Bets can then be made through any Internet-capable PC or Laptop, with betting on the Cup available from Sunday night up until race start on Tuesday.

To open a "NetTAB" account simply access our Web Site at and follow the prompts. PhoneTAB Betting Accounts can also be opened by calling our Customer Service line on 132 699.

Good luck with this year’s Melbourne Cup!
