Real name : Jarmo J. Tolvanen

Date of Birth : 13.07.1977
Location : Lappeenranta, Finland
Connection : T1 (anything less lags;-) (It's true you know - Infern0)
Hardware : Celeron 412Mhz, 128MB, Matrox Millennium 8MB (old one:-) OS: RedHat 6.0 with kernel 2.2.10
In-Game Character and Color : Black hat Caleb with some kind of weapon. :-)
Control Method : for Blood1? Keyboard of course, B1 was one of those last good games where you managed with keyboard only. :-)
Date and time interviewed : Sat Jul 17 14:37:51 EEST 1999

01 What's your gaming nickname and is there any particular reason why you chose it?

Um, I play(ed) with various names, but I often used "4thZombie" which was enough large to fit to Blood1 9 char limit. :-P I'm not sure how I really ended to play this name, but I guess it is merely the famous zombie-sound. :-)
"BRAAAIIINS!" -- Zombie
"BOOM!" -- TNT
"OUCH!" -- Flying Zombie
02 Do you use a custom character config and, if so, how is it setup?
Mmh, only really custom in B1 was my keyboard turn rate which was set to 140 or such to catch up one slippery mouse guy. ;-)
03 What weapons do you include in your arsenal?
01 : Tommy Gun
02 : Promixity Bomb (with Remote Bombs set under it as to get more power to explosion 8-)
03 : Tommy Gun
04 : Shotgun
05 : LOT of TNT. :-P
06 : Other various explosive and blowing material.

04 Do you prefer bloodbath, standard teamplay or CTF?
Hmm, Blood1 BloodBath with respawning weapons is still at the top of my list as the most equal and best multiplayer game playing experience. CTF-stuff is really hilarious too, especially Twin Fortress (BB6) and at the late nights when everyone were tired Butchery Loves Company (E4M1). :-)
05 What maps are you best on?
In addition to previous The Stronghold (BB1) and really addictive & sick Mall of the Dead (E4M9) are my favorites. E4M9 is marvelous as BloodBath with monsters turned on. 8-)
06 Which weapon do you think induces the most lag?
Hmm, can't speak about lag in LAN, but real game slowdown happens when you respawn to the field filled with promixity bombs and remotes. 8-) (you know that type of sickos who go in BB1 in that tool shed where are promixities&full; armor and then flip them time after time out of the window until some poor pimp happens to respawn at the middle of them:-)
07 What is the funniest kill you've performed or received?
The most hilarious was in BB1: Stronghold when I filled that full armor cabinet in the castle with several remotes and put in one promixity to give some extra kick for that armor. :-) Guy who opened the cabinet flied out of the window to the courtyard and then he was so pissed off in Real Life that he used wall as mousepad for the rest of the game (which wasn't long)
08 What's your standard way of carrying out a humiliation death?
Hmm, pitchforking or one bullet Tommy gun torture, shamefully TNT or Spray Can does not burn fast enough, they could get away. :-)
09 What games do you play online apart from Blood 2?
I play mostly Action Quake2 (as you know, Q2-mods are released for most major operating systems;-). I even run server for AQ2. AQ2 quite good, but I have periods when I think it sucks totally and keep pauses.
(server is at, if you like to try out)
10 What is your all-time favourite weapon from any game?
Promixity bombs backed up with remotes from Blood1 are quite strong candidates, though akimbo Tommy Gun is pretty amusing too. Action Quake2's Handcannon enchanted with slippers is also hilarious. :-)
11 What is your all-time favourite map from any game?
Hmm, I modified MAP1 in Doom2 (and named it as map1mod:-) to contain more players (4-6 for Legacy), it was quite balanced after the work and supported well that number of players with respawning items.
12 What do you think the future holds for Blood 2?
If you're speaking about Windoze Blood2, it's the Recycle Bin. ;-) (LOL! - Infern0)
When I watched my friend to play it, I felt it lacked all the rage and all the soul which Blood1 had. Blood2 fell so far from the target, I don't consider it as *Blood* at all. *Blood* means for me Blood1, and I guess this does not change ever.
13 What tips do you have to share with your fellow bloodbathers?
Always drop 2x remote bombs and one promixity over it. That way they get killed surely when they will stumble over your thingies. This means, of course, that you don't detonate remotes, but usually you never use remotes anyway. :-)
14 How can people contact you so they may try and damage your bloodbathing prowess?
Uh, I think they can't until I know them personally. I could visit at some LANs to play, but they usually have people I know before.
For AQ2-needs, you should visit (but only after when I get WWW-server running again, I did some little "installing" to it some time ago;-) And please, NO spam about AQ2-server. :-P
15 What do you think about PlanetBlood and is there anything else you would like to see on it? (this is also the place where you can plug your sites)
Hmm, it seems that you have plenty of stuff there, as I'm first time reader, it's hard to say what you seem to miss. Btw. You're kept the graphics very well under control, so your site is adequately fast.
16 What method do you use to write walkthroughs?
I wrote my The Secrets of Blood ( with just playing Blood and noticing some secrets. ;-) I adopted earlier project, Steve in New Zealand had Secrets for Episode1, I included Episode 2-4 and lastly Baytor finished the project by adding Post Mortem and Cryptic Passage.
Thus, The Secrets of Blood is the work of three persons, actually. Some fellow readers send me the missing secrets too. (ups, speaking about pages just reminded me that PB version is currently old one, it misses two lasting secrets, I guess I should upload them soon until this interview gets out.;-)
(unless you like to throw this to trash as this is about B1;-) (As if I would be so shallow - Infern0)
17 Does it become very tedious?
In fact, I when I was at the half way the project & knew maps thru and forth, I become soooo bored and relied on famous "EVA GALLI" and view map-cheat. (I had to do that in order to get things finished! :-)
18 Does the end result make up for any troubles during the creation of the walkthroughs?
I originally set up my work as there was absolutely NO Blood1 secret pages for commercial Blood, I knew I was the only one in the business. In the case of more "popular" game, like Quake1 I would have rejected the project immedialitely, as there were hundreds of Q1-secret pages around.
Closing Comment : Thanks for that interview, good to see the old Blood 1 spirit is still present - Infern0
