This site is dedicated to all PALS (Person(s) with ALS) and to my husband and all caregivers
and families who redefine their lives to care for us and help make us comfortable.
Cheryl

Cheryl's Journal... You will be touched by Cheryl's courage and strength and the strength of those around her. The ALS community will be able to relate to many aspects of Cheryl's experience as she powerfully doucuments the horrible nature of ALS: how it affects the body, mind, and attitude of the inflected person... The Journal will also be of interest to those who want to increase their level of awareness about ALS but may not have witnessed the disease in  someone's life before............

Site Mission

To serve as a resource and support for PALS, their families and caregivers and to

unite with other PALS to educate the public about ALS.

ALS stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis which is also known as Motor Neuron Disease and Lou Gehrig's Disease. In a nutshell, ALS is described as a fatal, incurable neurological disorder. The disease first gained national attention when the great baseball player, Lou Gehrig, died of the disease in 1941.

Lacking funding, research has been too little and too slow compared to the research of other diseases. ALS has been described as the most devastating of all the neurological disorders;

it can strike anyone, anytime, regardless of race, financial status, or ethnic background.  Although ALS research has increased in the last five years, there is much more to be done.

Reducing the Risk of Falling

Persons with ALS may be at risk for falling because of impaired mobility or fatigue and precautions need to be taken. Loss of balance, tripping and slipping are common causes of falling and may result in bruises, broken bones, lacerations or head injuries. While many falls do not result in physical harm, falling even once can cause some people to be extremely fearful of engaging in any activities, including leaving their homes. Although ...continued

To My Loved Ones and Dear Friends:

Don't grieve for me, for I will be free
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I will take His hand when I hear Him call;
I must turn my back and leave it all.
I can not stay another day.
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way;
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;
Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life has been full, I savored much;
Good friends, good times,
A loved one's touch.
And the laughter of the children
I have known.
Perhaps my times here seems all to brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wants me now,
He will set me free.
