Tony
Michaels is Manager of Organization Planning and Development for Burlington
Industries, Inc., headquartered in Greensboro, NC. A graduate of
the Virginia Military Institute, he joined Burlington in 1966 as a Human
Resources Trainee. He held a number of increasingly responsible
positions in Human Resources and Training and Development, including Human
Resources Development Manager for the largest division of the company,
Burlington Menswear, and Human Resources Manager for Corporate Manufacturing
Services. He was promoted to his present position in 1986.
Active in community affairs, he was named one of the "Outstanding
Young Men in America."
Tony has served on the Advisory Board of the UNC-Chapel Hill Career Services
Office, the Industry Advisory Board of North Carolina A&T State University
and the Board of Directors of the On-Line Career Center. He currently
serves on the Advisory Boards of the UNC-Charlotte, Applachian State University
and the Employer Advisory Board for JobTrak. Tony is a past-president
of the North Carolina Association of Colleges and Employers and received
their highest award in 1995 for distinguished service. He was named
their Outstanding Employer in 1998. Tony also served on the board
of the Virginia Association of Colleges and Employers and was presented
the John L. Chase Meritorious Service Award in 1997. He served as
president of the Southeastern Association of Colleges and Employers and
has held numerous board and committee chair positions, including Conference
Co-Chair and Director of Consulting Services. He is also a frequent
presenter on the national, regional and state levels.
Tony currently serves as a Director of the National Association of Colleges
and Employers. He chaired the Strategic Planning Coordinating Committee
and served on the Board of Presidents. He currently serves on the
Nominations, Awards and Diversity Advancement Committees and the Leadership
Development Project Team. Tony has received three national "Awards
of Excellence" for programs developed for students in Leaadership,
Experiential Learning and Publications and NACE named him "Employer
of the Year" in 1999.
